My Industrial Cabin Build

I am wondering if the dumpster I rented will be big enough it wont get here till Monday so Jefanna and I get a good workout.
You could just dig a hole in the yard and bury it - it's natural stuff. Hasn't affected my yard grass one bit. I did this for my sorta similar home build. Our pile was a little smaller than yours, probably correlates by square footage.

Paint? No, no paint is needed inside. Maybe if that's your kitchen backsplash of choice (since it needs to be waterproof). I didn't have paint inside or out, before we were granted out temp C of O.

And mowing the property for a house inspection? Lol, whatever felt right. No need for regrets now eh! I think your tall grassy meadow looked nice, personally. :)

Great work.

Awesome video, your happiness just made my day! Gave me great flashbacks to when our place was approved too. Our own trials and tribulations through an 8 month build were a pittance compared to what you and Jefana have worked through over these years. You truly earned that cheeseburger, man.

I have heard that apple trees prefer gypsum over lime.

Thank you. I went into work the next day, eager to share that news. Nobody cared. Some folks just can’t relate.

Absolutely. They either think you are crazy or just don't understand the magnitude of what you have taken on and completed. The ones who think you are crazy tend to "get it" and are definitely more right than the other group. 🤪

The idea of trying to break it up small enough to spread hurts my brain. I suspect burying it will just create a deposit of gypsum. The plants always like calcium , and dont always need the ph amended but even if I could figure out how to spread it, I’m sure it would be way more work than a dumpster.

And what my trees really need is for me to fortify my fence and shoot a lot of deer.

Blank stares from everyone. My boss was happy that I used some of my vacation before the holidays and he owns investment property so he can relate to inspection woes, but I dont think he does any more work than is necessary to write things off on his taxes.

Haha, well stated. It certainly IS a bit crazy to take on this much planning, surveying, engineering, constant researching, and years of hard labor. Most folks just plunk down a check and buy a turn key house, and many more just want a zero-maintenance apartment or condo (the psychopaths...).

From my perspective, my friends who just want to buy something turn-key often end up with a pretty dumpy, conventional, and poorly-built house that ends up needing lots of repairs over time. So in the end they have to put in a lot of the same work, money and effort anyway, just to have an inferior place to live - and less satisfaction with it. When you build new yourself, it sure takes a ****-ton of effort up front, but then you usually get to live for a decade or two without making any major repairs. So you can focus on other fun projects!

Probably the smartest group of buyers though, are the ones who find light fixer-upper, ranch style properties in good locations for bargain prices. For an often minimal amount of further investment and elbow grease, you can end up with a whole lot more property for the money than you get from buying raw land and building from scratch! During various economic downturns, there can be a lot of opportunity if the timing is right for your lifestyle and finances. I was too picky for that, had to do it the hard (fun) way too. :)
