Mahindra 3316HST
3316 HST Starts but loses power then cuts out; at first would run 20-30 min before losing power; is not overheating; replaced fuel pump and filter; no sign of water/coolant in oil, no bubbles in coolant, no moisture coming out of exhaust; tried removing fuel cap to make sure it was venting; tried removing air hose at intake manifold to be sure air intake adequate; get black smoke at start up, but not after, this was typical before started running poorly; tried seafoam and diesel 911;

Let's assume you have good fuel, no gasoline in it or water. I assume you have inspected the fuel bowl when it is running or when it dies and you are not seeing air or pollutants.

If you pull off the hose at the the fuel bowl and put it in a bucket and turn the key on will it pump a steady stream continuously? If yes, then do the same test for the hose at the FIP connection. If not, look for crud in the tank or in the hose. This is the most likely cause in my opinion.

If you have good fuel at the FIP, and we decide that this is a fuel related issue, then we need to look at the FIP as the source of the problem. It has an electric shut-off and we would want to make sure it is not shutting off somehow.

You could also pull your injectors and have them pop tested, just to rule that out. That is cheap and easy if you have a local FI shop or if your local tractor dealer has his own pop tester. Most shops do.

Ok, Dave, thanks so much. I took off all the hoses and bowl and cleaned everything out. Sure enough, must have been gunk in the line. It's purring again.

I have a mahindra 2615 and after I ran it for about 20 minutes, it bogged down and would restart, but not stay running. Any ideas?

Kyle,
Welcome to TBN....
You probably should have started your own thread.
First things to check are the fuel and air filters . They may be plugged or need replacement.

1st thing to do is change fuel filter and check for good fuel flow from tank to inj pump.

Is the fuel bowl the bowl below the tractor primer(the primer bowl)?/Where is the FIP connection on my Mahindra 200204500???

DJP you need to get your self a parts list showing where
the diagrams show how the unit is assembled and this way
you will have part numbers to order what ever your need

DJP, you might start a thread on your issue. This thread is old and relates to the compact tractors built by Mitsu. They have nothing in common with the M&M-built units.

But just for folks that happen to stumble onto this thread for their Mitsu-built machine, we have learned a little in the 10 years since my response to this thread. It is fairly common for the plastic screen in the fuel tank spout to get accidentally pushed down into the tank on those models where the tank is under the hood/cowl area. Then when you least expect it, it will cover the outlet and starve the tractor of fuel. It's random, but we have seen it many times now. I know it seems unlikely, but it really will cause these issues.

On the older M&M units, the common issues on fuel related problems were: 1) the fuel system hose connectors have banjo bolt connections. If you get some crud in your tank, it will build up in the small holes in the banjos and plug. and/or 2) The hoses for a few years were not great and had a relatively short lifespan. They will suck air before they actually leak fuel. Air being sucked into the fuel system of a diesel tractor will cause hard starts, rough running, sometimes white'ish smoke, etc.

I hope this helps.
