ASKED this on a few other forums, but thought i would see what you guys have to input. I have a septic system, and need to replace my toilet. I am concerned with the 1.6 gal flush, any recomendations on wich type , name brand toilet will give a good flush with that amt of water.

I installed This Kohler for my inlaws this summer. They are on a well and septic system. They wanted a toilet that flushed good and was easy to get on and off. I needed a toilet that was as shallow as possible (lenght from wall to outer rim) due to limited space. This fit the bill. It flushes rather fast basically swooooooooooooooooosh /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif and all is gone /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I forget what I started out looking at but get one that talks about a large flapper area and waste passage way.

See attachment for roughed in Photo.

edit:
I should have mentioned that this was special ordered from Lowes for approx $186.

I'm in the process of replacing mine. I was 'overloaded' with information trying to decide which way to go. Then the plumber suggested to me to look at a new Kohler that has a fast flush (3" tank outlet) and one he was impressed with. So I said yes to get that one.

A week later found it was so popular that it would be a two month backorder, and if I wanted to pick something else. I said "no", I didn't want 'second best'. So we kept the order, and it has taken so long to finish the shower installation, that the toilet has been here for a week now, and it will be about another 3 weeks for the painter to finish after which the toilet can be placed on the new spot.

It's a Kohler Cimarron K-3497 (two-piece), if you want to know that.

I guess we are on the same page (and the same time) with our suggestion. Thanks for the picture.

We have a Kohler and an Eljer. Ordered the Kohler in green to match green Kohler sinks. Both work fine on the septic tank, and are 1.6 gal flush. Only thing of note, is the dry tank "jet flush" aint worth a hoot in a tall toilet... Regular tank/flush works fine.

On that note, we bought tall/handicap toilets for both bathrooms. I would never buy a standard height toilet again. It is just so much easier doing your duties on the tall one. There's some short people in my family, but everyone is pretty agreeable on the tall commode.

We put Kohler 1.6's in our place when we built about 16 years ago. Between myself and the 3 boys, if the 1.6GPF "girly toilets" were going to be trouble, we would have known by now. They still work fine.

It does bother me that the gummit feels the need to tell me I must use a 1.6......................chim

Excellent article on the subject in Fine Homebuilding this month. I recommend it.

I think our friends in Canada don't have this water restriction, have you thought about a cross border shopping trip?

We built our house 21 yrs ago and it had the larger capacity Eljer toilets and I never liked the way they flushed. About 2 yrs ago, I had to replace one and put in an American Standard 1.6 gal. It flushes far better with less water than the larger Eljer in the other bathroom. We are on septic system also.
