does it have a delete cover on the back end where the pto would have been?

does it have a standard top cover with upper lift arms, or a delete plate.. or a top cover and no lift arms and no rockshaft.. or does it have a rockshaft.

lastly, is the belly pump present.. or is it simply a delete cover on the bottom of the center section.

if it is missing the pto shaft.. it likely has no hyd pump.. if no pump.. it may have been an industrial or other machine.. and to add the top cover, pump and pto shaft may be cheaper to buy the back end of a junked 9n that has the stuff.. then swap parts.. or entire rear...

This tractor has all the options and they all worked awhile ago. By all, I mean the PTO & the three point lift arms. I am going to go work on it tomorrow, this Ford is my Nephews. It's been awhile since I worked on one , he said I fixed the problem before but I don't remember. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

So when you say "you have no rear pto or 3-point lift" you mean you DO have them but they do not work???

If thats the case, you may have a busted PTO shaft. Take out the 4 bolts around it and pull it out. (Might want to drain the fluid first:D)

The hydraulics are driven by the PTO. That would explaing why neither work. If it isnt the PTO shaft, it is something farther upstream and going to take more digging. It may simply be something broke and not engaging???

If it is the PTO shaft, for about the same $$$, you can get the 1-3/8 spline shaft and not have to use adapters for modern 540PTO implements.

oh.. saying it dind't have a pto threw me off into right field.

first, make sure pto lever is engaged properly.. if it feeld like it engages.. but no pto or hyds, make sur ehte thractor will move.. IE.. the tranny is getting power.

pull the inspection cover on the right side.. look thru as someone operates the pto engage lever .. see if it moves the sliding dog clutch.. sometimes the arm moves and nothing else does.

you can remove that pto lever cover as well for a looksee

i've posted a diagram of the pto shifter mechanism used on the N series.

if you feel like that is working, then park nose down a bit and see about pulling the pto shaft.. might have the end chewed off or something.. like a brake..e tc..
