With the mild winter temperatures we're experiencing in lower Michigan the ducks are making themselves at home in the open water. In the mix of many ducks, mallard's, domestic's and mallestic's, there's one little lady with only one leg. As the group of ducks walk up from the shoreline, she'll stay back in the water and then fly up on shore. She kind of scoots and hops around on the one leg until she can get some food. Not sure what happened to her leg.

I'll show a couple pictures of the group and then some of the one legger. It's was diffucult to get a picture that clearly showed one leg but, here goes. Hear the dinner bell ringing?

Don

The duck probably lost the leg fighting off a turtle. Lost the leg, but saved her life. Turtles like young duck chicks as a meal.

Pretty good balancing act she does on that one leg, looks like she's been at it for a while and she's made it this long - good for her!

The reason that the duck has only one leg, is that that particular duck was a family pet. One night the house caught on fire, and the duck awakened everyone and everone got out safe. After that they called that duck "Lucky".
Every year, they take a small piece of the duck for Christmas Dinner. A duck that good, you wouldn't want to eat all at once.:D
