Any opinions on the new 2025 Ram 1500 with the standard hurricane inline 6cly.with twin turbos?I currently have a 2022 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi.Thinking about trading up to a 2025.

It looks like even the standard Hurricane engine has more torque and hp than the 5.7L Hemi, as configured for the Ram 1500. Not by enough to make it worth swapping trucks, IMO, but at least it's not worse. It would be interesting to lay their dyno curves side-by-side, and see if this new inline-6 is just peaked over a smaller RPM range to publish better numbers, or if it really holds its weight over the full RPM range.

The Hurricane H/O looks like a beast, but again, I'd like to see the HP and torque vs. RPM curves laid out against something I know.

Why? Is the "old" truck falling apart? Rusting away?? or Money burning a hole in your pockets?

I still want at least 6 more years out of my 2009 Toyota Tacoma, 185,000 miles and I've disliked the interior of the truck since forever and it gets crappy gas mileage, 16.5 mpg.

You can't take the money with ya' so why not spend it?

Trucks are so over priced, I just can't waste it like that... That's my 2 cents dollars!

The HO version requires 91 octane.
A drawback to consider

Not a surprise. With compression (or boost), always comes a requirement for higher octane, to avoid pre-detonation.

But even the old 5.7L "recommends" mid-grade. I don't remember the cutoff, whether it's 89 or 91, as most of our stations just have one or the other, so I always just select the middle grade. But either way, Ram doesn't recommend regular 87 octane in the 5.7L. The difference is that the 5.7L will still run fine on 87 octane, but the manual states the ECM will adjust around it, and performance will not be "optimal". This likely means adjusting timing according to knock sensor, but not my area of expertise to really know.

Most of our stations here are 87 regular, 93 premium, and then one in-between, whether that be 89 or 91. A few stations (Wawa & Sunoco) have 4 grades, but you end up paying across the board for that, as inventorying 4 costs them more than inventorying 3 grades. So if running the HO, you might end up buying 93 Premium, at stations only stocking 87/89/93.

edit: According to Google, Ram 5.7L "requires" 89 octane. I'm pretty sure the paper manual sitting in my glove box says 'recommends". Either way, not buying regular 87, for either.

6 cylinder engines in general make peak torque at lower RPM and usually have a flatter more useable torque curve.
My BMW X5 has a 4L twin turbo in line 6 that pulls really hard.

Turbos are pretty reliable, but the twin set ups make me pause a bit. My Challenger MT655E has twin turbos and an 8.4L AGCO POWER in line 6. Not cheap to replace those turbos and one is beginning to slobber a little oil. :(

I bet that ram is fun to drive when both are fully engaged. Kind of reminds me of a 70’s truck with a 4 barrel carb kicking in.

I can’t wait for the 2025 Ram 4500/5500. We are supposed to get a ZF-8 “super” automatic transmission and some other upgrades.

FWIW: at one point, Sunoco was doing at the pump blending, in their "Blend-o-matic" pumps, so no need to have inventories of all grades. I have no idea if that is still the case. E.g.

Sunoco has a long history in fuel blending, especially for high performance fuels, e.g. racing.

All the best,

Peter
