2006 Kubota M7040 Cab, Yamaha Grizzly
I've enjoyed Tractorbynet for a few years now. I mostly lurk, but post from time to time. I thought this new addition warranted a post.

I took delivery of a new M7040 Cab with Hydraulic Shift and Loader the day before yesterday (Thursday). A new Bush Hog 297 (7') rotary cutter was also part of the deal. Have put about 8 hours on it so far.

I've read with great interest any posts about the new M-series over the past several months. As usual, there is much to learn on this site. This is a fantastic tractor. I can tell that the cab is going to totally spoil me. Rather than opting for the Kubota radio, I installed an Alpine Radio/CD yesterday. It was a little more than half the price of the Kubota radio and allows me to connect and control my ipod.

I've attached a picture of the tractor. I'll try to keep the forum updated about how the tractor performs.

Now THAT is a real tractor! I bet that AC cab is real nice this time of year. I'm sure your gonna have plenty of fun with that beast. Looks like it's time to update your tag line and include that new tractor.

Very nice tractor. I have been looking at the identical tractor here to use on 80 acres. I am just reluctant to pull the trigger since it is about a 39K purchase. Keep us all informed as your experience may well influence others ( me especially). Was it difficult to add your own radio? I have also considered a L5030 but do not want to wish I had a larger tractor someday.

Congratulations

The radio was very easy to install. I couldn't find an adapter to plug directly into the Kubota wiring harness plug, but I did find some very small female flat spade connectors at Advance Auto Parts that fit onto the individual connectors within the Kubota factory plug. They worked fine and I didn't have to cut or splice anything. There are seven connections in the plug (2 positive speaker connections, 2 negative speaker connections, 1 ground, 1 power, 1 switched power).

Other than that, the unit fit perfectly into the hole and the factory speakers sound better than I expected.

I also had my eye on the L5030 Cab as an alternative. I am a huge fan of the Hydro transmission. However, when I got down to it, the price difference between the L5030 and M5040 was very small compared to the difference in the tractors. The M is much more heavy duty than the L. One thing we use the tractor for is a small hay operation and I felt the L was on the threshold of being just a little too light for this. Once I made up my mind that I wanted to go with the M-series, it was all too easy to talk myself into going ahead and getting the M7040. I liked the extra HP, larger tires, and limited-slip front drive. By the way, the $39k price sounds high. Mine came in at around $35k, including tax, for the tractor and loader.

You have a great looking tractor, I don't own a Kubota but I am a fan. You are right, the cab will spoil you, now after mowing for two or three hours I feel as good as when I started. No heat, bugs, or dust to deal with and the reduced noise level is also nice. Good Luck with your new tractor.

Thats a nice tractor you got there. In my opinion as far as utility tractors go, the M series Kubota's are the best in that category. They have a lot nicer cab in my opinion than a comparable Massey or New Holland.

Which Alpine unit did you install? Is it "recommended" or "designed" for tractor use (exposure to heat, humidity, jolts, etc.)?

Thanks!

Terry

BTW, the M7040 Cab was my favorite Kubota tractor of all I looked at and drove! I would have purchased one if I could have convinced myself I needed one that large and the size wouldn't end up being a hinderance for much of my uses. Enjoy!!

I installed the Alpine CDE-9852. It was $179 at Best Buy. It is a standard car stereo unit. I don't think it will be exposed to significantly worse conditions than it would be in a car or truck, except maybe for some bad jolts. The cab is pretty much like a car inside. Therefore, my hope is that it will hold up just fine. Car stereos generally seem to be fairly tough. Only time will tell I guess. My dad cut hay with the tractor today and said the cd never skipped, even though parts of this particular field have some rough spots.
