New Holland Fuel Issue

new to this forum, Appreciate any feedback. i have a New Holland TD 95. We just recently replaced all the filters and changed the oil bc it was bogging down, and just not running as strong as usual. Last weekend it ran fine for about 3 hours, and as i was leaving the field, it started sputtering and died. now it will crank and run for a few minutes and die like it is starving for fuel.
Here is what i have tried.

• emptied and refilled both of the new fuel filters
• drained the tank and replaced the diesel
• replaced the lift pump
• traced fuel flow from the first filter to the second filter, to the lift pump, all the way to the injectors, and when i manually pump the lift pump, it is pushing or pulling fuel all the way to the engine. but when i run it, and it dies, it seems like there is not fuel left at the lift pump(the manual pump goes limp like there's no fuel in the hose to pump)

so the only thing i haven't checked is the sending unit in the tank. is there a way to check this? it looks like major surgery to get to the top of the tank.

any other ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated

You mentioned "both filters". Is one of those the water separator under the right side ladder? I've found numerous problems with those and have eliminated many of them because of air leaks into the system. That said, another common problem is the inlet fitting on that filter. The banjo fitting can get stuff caught in both the fitting and the bolt itself. That's the first place anything coming out of the tank will get trapped. Remove the bolt, then the fitting from the hose and inspect all of it. You might be surprised at what you find.

Sounds to me like you have 'junk in the trunk' as in debris in the bottom of the tank(s) that is blocking the fuel line from the tank pickup to the first filter and the pickup/sending unit has nothing to do with that at all. My sending unit on my saddle tanks are also a pizzer to access as in drop the tank (LH side) to access it.

yes, this is the one i'm referring to. the one by the right side ladder. I will bypass this and see what happens. thanks for the comment.

this is my thought as well. Access to the top of the tank looks like major surgery. Either pulling the floor up or dropping the tank. Both look to be a pain. thanks for your comment.

I had to drop the right side tank on one of my Kubota's as it was leaking out of the bung on the bottom (bad weld let go), wasn't too bad actually, just undid the tank straps, pulled the sending harness from the float gage, removed the straps and took it out (removed the fuel line as well). Fixing it was a different issue. Had to drain it, then wash it inside a couple times and then remove the old bung and grind off the weld. The I bought a new bung and pipe plug at the hardware store (SAE not metric) and TIG welded in the new one. Took care of that issue. I rarely get any foreign matter in my fuel tanks anyway. The fillers on both of mine have the optional strainers in the filler necks and I run Racor fuel polishing filters on the fuel line before any of the OEM filters. I run 10 micron elements on them btw.

I'm 100% sold on Racor filters, everything diesel I own has them and my new Kubota diesel lawnmower will have one as well shortly.
