New Holland TC35D c/w FEL, ACCO Allis 1614
I am considering buying a 2001 TC35D with 77 hours. Looks pretty clean except for small rust spots on arms of FEL. Looks like it has been kept outside for the last 2 years by the Dealership. Strange that Dealership would not have maintained it better for best re-sale value. Canadian Dealership is asking $23,500 with 6 months warranty. (So roughly $12,000 American) Not sure if this is a good buy or not considering the rust spots.
Does anybody know if there is a mechanical weak link that the TC35D has that is prone to be a maintenance problem ? i.e. Supersteer, Hydraulics, 3PH, etc.

Sounds like a good buy to me, particularly with the FEL and a 6 month warranty. Who had it for only 77 hours and why did they trade it? The rust on the FEL is nothing to worry about, which is why the dealer didn't. Most dealers don't have the room to keep current models under cover, much less 2 or 3 year old used tractors.

Kozak, that rust on the loader is nothing. For that price, you could repaint the whole loader and still be way ahead in cost. $12,000 U.S. is unbelievable! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Buy it quickly and we'll tell you about the little things that could be wrong later.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What color is the running gear? Gray or Black? Check the welds on the hydrostatic drive pedal mechanism that goes into the transmission. Some of the early tractors had weak welds. Check the hydraulic lift arms. The gray tractors had weak lift arms that could bend under heavy stress. All these things are minor compared to that sale price.

Get that tractor! Get the warranty! Get happy! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Wow! With Supersteer, too! What a bargain!

Let's see: frequent, known problems with those are....

Engine runs too cold (coolant drain hoses bypass thermostat and/or thermostat jammed open with bypass pin)
Battery overfilled/overcharged/overflow and rusts front components (radiator, battery tray, etc.)
Tilt wheel cylinder holds water and freezes it so it can't adjust
Loader's joystick breaks at bottom screw
Parking brake does't hold (sawtooth notches don't line up)

There have been other problems brought up in these forums, but they are more random and unique, like....

Jim's HST pedal welds
My cruise control magnet being bad
Loose nut and bolts

All of these were covered by NH under warranty. I would negotiate a free pickup/delivery for warranty work. That way you can operate it for 6 months with an eye toward these issues and have them totally resolved at no cost to you. Oh, make sure they have done the 50hr service.

I knew all about these potential problems before I bought mine and STILL bought it. I have not regretted the decision.

Get it before it is gone!

Mark

Many thanks to jinman, mikePA & markie61 for your excellent responses. Gave me some first-rate advice & info to investigate further. There is still one more hurdle. The tractor currently has turf tires & I must have industrial as I will mainly be using this tractor for moving the never-ending horse manuere, landscaping & snow removal. The Dealership is still checking if they have a set of rims with industrial tires in stock. Otherwise will have to order in which will increase price.

If everything works out with the tires, I am having them clean up the tractor for a better look.

Thanks again guys, you may have just pushed me into buying my first incredible tractor. She is a beauty.

Kozak ... looks like you're using last years conversion rate. Check again. The rate has swung drastically in the last 8 months.

Without having today's rate in front of me, but 23.5 canadian is much closer to 17k in today's market, as a guesstimate.

You may also have some fees to deal with if you are buying a machine sold in canada and having it transported across the border to the U.S. of A.

Olp ... here's todays rate, I'll help you out.

Live mid-market rates as of 2004.02.02 16:59:13 GMT.
23,500.00 CAD Canada Dollars = 17,563.57 USD United States Dollars

1 CAD = 0.747386 USD 1 USD = 1.33800 CAD

The great maple bargain is over for the states.

I AM Canadian. Therefore, I do not get the brakes you guys down in the States get. Believe me, it's brutal up here. You guys have got it made. Think it is still worth buying at the $17,500 U.S. equivalent price ?

Well jinman...very close to being happy now. Checked out the Tractor again toady after being cleaned up & it looks great. They have the industrial tires. The running gear is grey. That kind of bummed me out but the hydraulic lift arms look straight as an arrow. What is the difference between grey & black running gears anyways ? If we do use the updated exchange rate, do you think the price is reasonable at $17,500 U.S. (Remember, I AM a Canadian so will be paying in Canadian funds) Was going to send a few pictures but not sure if this is koshure as the files are fairly large. (750 Kb per picture)

Kozak, $17,500 is not nearly as good as $12,500, but that price is in line with what you would expect to pay for that tractor here. I asked about the gray color because I believe that late in 2001, the running gear changed to black like the new tractors are (maybe it was 2002???). Most likely you will not have any problems with that tractor, but I would read through every post you can find about the TC35, TC40, and TC45 in this forum all the way back to early 2001. I think you will be a lot smarter buyer and know exactly what to look for. In the process you will learn a lot of tricks and tips. Just call it time spent looking for insurance. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think you'll like that tractor even at $17,500, but be sure it's what you want. In the final analysis, you are the one making payments so you need to be happy with your purchase. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Kozak ... as jinman above points out, 17.5 USD for this machine is a "fair" price. Meaning, it's not a great deal nor is it a high price, IF and ONLY IF the machine checks out for one it's age and its hours.

Jim knows the blue line well I'm sure, better than I. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't actually 12.5 USD! Cause that is ummm ...well ... moot.

IF it makes you feel any better, I can take you to any one of a half dozen dealers here in NY and not get even CLOSE to 17.5USD for similiar equipment.

The economies between our 2 sovereignties notwithstanding, that is not that bad of a deal. "Brutal" is a relevant term given it's context.
