I was out looking at the New Holland tractor and it seems that this 30 hp tractor is larger than the same John Deere tractor. I was told that this is a better tractor also. Any disagreement here. I'm still looking and will be for awhile until I decide what to do. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

welder,

Welcome to TBN, I don't think we can answer that question without more info, which JD model were you comparing it to /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

As far as which is better, you will learn that's a loaded question on the forum /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

My opinion is they are both good tractors, you need to see which one fits you the best and has what you want for the $$$ /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

IMO, Deeere, like anyone makes a respectable product. They have their flaws just like anyone else does. However, what I do not agree with is some of their busienss practices. The price that they charge is inflated. When you buy a deere your paying for not just the tractor but also their expensive and aggressive marketing campaign. I also do not like how they pitch themselves as a "made in the usa" kinda company. A deere is not any more american made than a kubota! I know its part of their image, but its a flat out lie. I think Kubota and some New Holland (if they can manage the company properly) will continue to gobble up more and more of their market share.

Welder,

Both are good tractors. Neither one is really any better than the other one. You didn't list the models you are comparing so it is tough to make comment on the size.

If you want my opinion, go with the dealer you feal most comfortable with. In both cases you will need service and that is where the dealer comes in. Anyone can sell a product lower than the next guy. I would get out there, test drive them both, get to know the dealers and I would at least get two deere and two holland dealers to make your comparision.

Good luck

Hard question to answer. Can you provide some additional information? Which JD versus which NH? What features are important to you? What do you plan on doing with the tractor? Do you want a basic tractor (TC30) or a fully featured tractor (TC29) and what will those added features provide in terms of comfort, speed, performance (depending on you and the jobs the answer is: little to none or a lot)

All the major brands are good tractors. I personally would not buy a Deere, but that is solely becuase of the DEALER in my area.

Each tractor brand has its strong & weak points. NH has some great ergonomics and design but is owned by a mismanaged parent company. Kubota engines are very smooth sounding. Deere has an excellent marketing campaign and good tractors. None of any of those things really makes much difference to the end user. The key is does the tractor do the work. In all three cases, the answer is yes. In all 3 cases, the tractors you are considering arrive in the US in pieces from Japan and are assembled here. In all 3 cases there are people who will try to sell you a grey market tractor and say it is just as good as brand x, y, z (in all 3 cases that is a 1/2 truth).

I've got Kubota, New Holland & Cub Cadet tractors of various sizes. I like the NH the best. But that is a personal choice.

I received delivery of my TC33D with supersteer, 7308 FEL, 72"mm and 6' rear blade this week and just went through what you are going through because I did not have preference for color.

I first determined what my primary use would be which for me is mowing 5 acres weekly then secondary uses i.e., driveway maintenace, landscaping, gardening, etc. that requires light loader work. Also, I wanted to make sure the tractor size would not be too heavy to damage my lawn but large enough to do most other work I anticipated doing. Based upon my set of priorities, I then research each tractor for fit and then visited dealers for test operation and evaluated the quality of the dealer. You will find that most on this forum put much emphasis on dealer because if you ever have a problem you want someone local that will back the tractor. There were many other factors but those were the key ones.

Based upon the above priorities, NH was the best fit for me because the supersteer is great for mowing and I liked the ergonomics of levers, seat and curved hood for ease of sight for loader work. I compared the NH TC33D, JD 4310, Kubota L3130 and Kioti DK35 which was the order of my choice as well. I was also very interested in the Massey 1440H (which is the only mfg. with turbo on this size of tractor) but no local dealer. If my priorities were more focused on loader work, I probably would have chose the JD due to more lift capacity of JD loaders but the Kubota would have been very close second since dealer is closer.

As far as price, the dealers in my area are all very competitive and easy to work with. I had dealers give me there best price with comparable equipment and found Kubota to be cheapest, NH second and JD third. The Kioti dealer was way over priced when comparing the tractor to the other three. There was only 5% difference between highest and lowest bid. I don't brow beat for best price but did tell the salesperson to give me their best price because I was getting quotes from the other dealers. That worked well in my area. I also got quotes from dealers on this forum to see if my dealers were competitive and they were.

This is rather winded but will give you how I approached this important investment decision.

Like the others said.. ..if you are buying from the 'big 3' you are pretty much on the straight and narrow path.

All are winners. As for size vs weight.. thats where you see some differences.

Personally.. i like a tractor that is heaviy enough to make use of its power. For instance.. when i was tractor shopping a few years ago.. I was looking at a NH tc 18.. and then went over to the masseyf dealer.. they had a tractor smaller than the tc18.. but 25 hp...

It felt like a big riding lawnmower to me.. I just couldn't imagine it using that 25 hp on the wheels.. as it would spin due to 'no' weight. Remnember that traction is a function of weight and hp available.. that said.. you don't want too huge a chassie eating up your hp just toting hte beast around either..

The difference become apparent more based on what you want to do with a machine... ground engaging implements need a decent tractor weight.. for instance.. that tc18 might have plowed better.. but on the other hand.. that 25hp MF probably ran a mower better in heavy brush... extra hp available to the pto.. etc.

Same reason how people could make hay using a jd B.. a less than 30 hp machine.. but weighed over 4000 pounds.. bailer didn't 'wag the dog' as it might have with a lighter, more powerfull machine.

Thanks soundguy for all the info OK lets see if I can calm down now. I think I have two much information. I have numbers on weight, hyl flow, lift cap and many more running though my head. I wonder if any of this will matter when I get the tractor home? Can any one tell me about the hydro pump or pumps on the DX 33 or NH. Does it matter? One brand says yes another no? I am like Vinnie on Welcome Back Kotter (telling off on my age) I am so confused. I love the red tractor, really like the dealer, the only drawback the dealer is 60 miles away. And I know this is crazy but I like the red better than the blue, but I like the blue dealer better does it matter? and they are the same tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The Case and the New Holland are the same except for New Holland will give you the option of Super-Steer. Case at least from what I was told and when I was buying you can't get the Super-Steer. But if you don't needs Super-Steer then it don't make a difference.
