I made a tough decision. Here's the story.
Back in January 2008 I bought a new 4720 with the factory ComfortGuard cab. It's a tremendous tractor and from December until the April it is the ideal tractor for me. Plowing snow and hauling firewood is a real joy with this tractor. However.
I have 7 acres of mature pine/spruce trees that are overgrown and need constant thinning. I also plant new trees each year for selling and transplanting. I am removing most of the pine and am replacing with spruce. The white/black hills spruce are quite hardy and transplant well.
I new when I purchased the tractor with the factory cab that there could issues from time to time working around the trees. For the most part I was able to get around the trees but the heavy overgrowth is making it more and more difficult. When I down a tree and limb it I end up hauling the branches by hand quite a distance just to pile so I can haul with the 4720 and grapple. I end up doing more work by hand that I need to.
So last week I found at a JD dealership a 2007 JD 3720 hydro with a CX loader, large R-4 tires, power beyond and a real nice 447 backhoe. The salesman estimated the backhoe has about ten hours on it. The tractor has only 65 hours and looks like new. The previous owner traded it on a 4720 cab with pull type finish mower. Its too bad we didn't hook up a month ago.
We had to add a few upgrade to the 3720 so it will be a couple of weeks before the tractor is delivered. I added the 3rd hydraulic valve and the hydraulic coupler kit that extends to the front of the loader. I also ordered the 60" JD root grapple.
So I will be selling my prestine 4720 with factory cab, R-4 tires, rear wiper, rear work lights, automotive cruise update, am-fm CD player, 3rd hydraulic valve, 400X loader, skid steer carrier, heavy duty 72" skid steer bucket, loader mounted hydraulic couplers, telescoping draft links (three point hitch). The tractor has around 360 hours and is nice as they come. I also have a Worksaver skidsteer grapple that I will sell separately.
I will be posting pictures soon in the private items for sale section.
I know at times I will miss the 4720 badly, especially when I'm plowing snow and the wind is blowing out of the NW at about 30 mph.
