Bought a new B2320 HST a couple weeks ago. There is a noise when raising the pulling the 3 pt hitch lever (a whining like power steering makes after hitting a stop, but the tractor makes the noise only when lifting up the 3 pt. hitch, which seems to work fine otherwise). Noise gets louder as rpms increase while pulling the 3p hitch lever up. Sounds like the noise is coming from the hoses going to the rear remote (haven't connected any implements to the remote yet). When I start to raise the 3pt hitch, the hoses jerk suddenly and the noise starts. As soon as I let off on the 3 pt., the noise and vibration in the hoses stops. There are 3 hoses going from the transmission to the remote valve mounted on the ROPS, and the 2 connectors for attaching implements screw right into the valve. My question is whether this is normal, or if the hoses could be hooked up incorrectly (like I said I haven't connected any implements yet), or some other likely cause?

Thanks much,
Howard

If the 3pt is at it maximum height, then if you continue to hold the lever up, the relief will sound off.

You should move the lever to neutral, slightly down from top, where there is no movement of the 3pt.

If you install a 3000 psi hyd gage in the FEL valve IN port, you will see the psi on the gage go to relief pressure when you max out any cyl.

Some pictures would be nice.

The remote lines jerk and the noise starts as soon as the 3 pt starts moving up from any position. There is no difference in the noise when the 3 pt reaches max height. The noise only stops when I take my hand off the 3 pt lever.

I don't have a pressure gauge, yet. I'm thinking the remote lines could have been hooked up wrong by the dealer.

What pictures would help?

Thanks again!

Try and trace the pressure path to the remote and from the remote to the 3pt.

If you have to, remove the hoses from the remote and use air to verify which ports are working like they are supposed to.

Other wise, if the remote is getting pressure from the hyd block, make sure the hose from the hyd block is a pressure hose and is going to the IN port of the remote. If there are three hoses to the remote, then one of them is probably PB, and the other tank hose.

If QD's used, re-check the couplers.

Does the remote work like it should.

Do you have switches/levers you have to shift?

If the descend knob is screwed down, can you still raise the 3pt. Turn the descend knob counter clockwise and see if anything changes.

Was holding off on attaching anything to the remotes until I was sure they were hooked up right. Screwing the descend knob to "lock", I can still raise the 3 pt and then it stays locked in up. In any other position of the descend knob the noise and hose jerking is as I described. The only switch/lever that I know to shift is on the remote valve. Moving that lever does not affect the noise but of course I don't have any implement connected yet. The quick disconnects for the implement screw directly into the valve.

I sent the dealer an email asking for a diagram of how the remote valve is supposed to connect to the tractor. Wish I got the diagram with the tractor but it was not part of the paperwork.

Thanks again,
Howard

You should hear the same noise that a relief makes on the remotes if you push or pull the levers.

The fluid apparently has a path to get back to tank, or you would hear the screech all the time.

With all valves in neutral, there should be no or very little pressure on the hyd gage.

Is there a chance the 3pt mechanical part are binding. Can you manually raise the 3pt levers?

When the 3pt relief goes off, it usually means that the cyl is full, or the load on the 3pt is to great. A pressure gage would help in these kinds of situation.

Yep, the remotes make the same noise as the 3 pt when pulling on the lever. I checked the 3 pt arms and they are not binding. The noise may not be a problem but I've been looking for an excuse to get another tool anyway, so it looks like it will be a pressure gauge, so will dust off the ole Northern Tools catalog today. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out!!

You might find a hyd gage at the local TSC.

Just to be clear here, with nothing attached to the remotes that have QD's on them, you will get the whine and the relief valve will be relieving.

With all valves in neutral, do you hear the screeching noise?

The hyd gage will help you determine the set pressure and if need be re-adjust the relief. It will also tell you the pressure required for the cyl to lift a load.

Don't expect very much pressure with no load on the cyl.

No, with both valves in neutral, there is no noise. I'll check pressures when I get my gauge.

Thanks again,
