Interesting stuff. That drive over deck with auto connect sure looks nice ;-)

That should say: "also you can price one"

One thing I really dislike on the new series, the hood.

I can't think of any good reason for why they set the hood much further back, and exposed so much frame on the front of the machine. It looks like they tried to make it look like a D100 series. That's a bad thing to do on a premium machine!

I think they were just trying to get rid of the pull off air intake screens that snap into the rubber grommets on the last gen. models and mold them into the hood. Not sure why they exposed more of the front frame. I'm not crazy about the look of the hood either, I mean did it really need a hood scoop?

I know what you mean about the new hood design. I like the looks of the previous hood better. That hood scoop is vented, so it may help keep the engine compartment cooler along with opening up the front more. Don't really know for sure, but my local dealer told me the new models are designed to run cooler.

Take a look at one in person before passing judgment. I felt the same way, but in person it actually looks nicer. Also the clear lenses on the lights should improve light output.

I'm still sticking with the older style, but the new ones are nice.

JD 2012 2013.jpg Not sure if this will show up or not. I Tried to attach one photo showing a 2012 748 and a 2013 738. Compare each one. There is no difference in the setback of the Hood or more frame sticking out. The changes that do show are The seat, Hood Vents top and side, Headlights and grill. The 738 shows a drive over deck and diff. bracket for the deck wheels. This being U shaped and not L shaped as on the 2012. Also a diff. in the tool box.

Yes, the hood is different. You can clearly see the hinge bolts for the hood brackets are exposed on the new series. The actual hood itself is slightly shorter than the previous generation machines. All of that exposed hardware up front looks bad IMO.

Also, if you look at the area where your feet rest while operating, it looks like the new machines actually have less room than the previous generation as well.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the front hood apron having to flex over the front bumper frame when opening the hood? It does appear to be narrower....

I am glad I purchased a 2012 model X700, seeing one can install the FEL option....I figure the frame is much more solid....I will be ordering the shovel for my tractor this weekend! And we, the tractor & myself, are excited!

For my use it will be replacing a wheelbarrow!
Besides I am in need of more mechanized toys and toy parts!

I am also very glad I bought my 2012 X740. The new X700's look like a blown up D100 now!

I do believe the new frame is the same as it has always been. I believe John Deere stopped offering the loader because of very low sales numbers. My guess is the reason they will not have one available for purchase until 2014 is because they are trying to find a way to make production cheaper.
