Hi I have a 95 NH 1920 tractor, I'm having a problem getting it to start. I can start it by using a screw driver on the starter. The neutral safety switch on the f/r lever was junk and I replaced it I now have continuity in the neutral position. The top left instrument panel light turns on when I turn the assessory on. When I try to turn it over I get nothing and all the dash lights go out till it sits for a few minutes then I can get the top left light to come back on when the ignition is on assessory. Any thoughts? I have continuity on the starter also. PTO is in the neutral position.

I was just there with my 1925 . There was a loose wire by the safety relays , But I couldnt figure out what safety switch was the problem , so I bypassed the safety system .( I know I am going to **** for that ) . If it helps , its the purple wire .

Yours is a couple years older . Sometimes you just have to trace it down .

My 1998 Ford/NH 1920 had persistent starting problems too. I found help on this forum from a guy who mentioned that these Ford/NH starters need a full 12 volts to the solenoid before the starter will engage. Of course, in addition to the 12V, your battery must provide sufficient current. I suggest that you attach jumper cables or a jumpbox to your battery and then try to shunt to the solenoid from the battery. If it starts, your battery may be weak. My problem continued with significant voltage loss in the wiring harness that keeps the full 12V from the starter. Every wiring connection or splice is a loss point in the harness so I was chasing each connection trying to restore the 12V. I finally gave up and installed a start push-button (from Autozone) on the dash and ran 2 new 12V wires to the push button; one to the battery post on the starter and the other to the starter solenoid. Turning the ignition switch to 'On' position opens the fuel solenoid and then I push the button to effectively 'hot wire' the battery to the starter solenoid. No start failures in 9 months now...what a relief. This solution bypasses all electrical safety switches and wiring harnesses so you hafta be careful. Good luck!
