I just put new brake shoes on my John Deere 750 compact tractor and I can't adjust them according to what some say I should have 1" of free travel on the pedals. I've lengthend and shortened the brake linkage to their maximum from the pedals to the actuator on the brake housings of both the left and right side brakes. Both sides react the same. The brakes seem to engage when I push the pedals down to within 1/2" of the brake pedals bottoming out. If I lengthen the linkage, it will lock my brakes up. Any ideas? Please help.
