As I age, I do less. But that has really picked up in the last year due to my shortness of breath and O2 usage. Last fall we bought a used Fisher HD plow for the truck. It works well. Just last week the battery was dead - wan't shut down properly. Of course this was the week I caught my wife's chest cold and could barely make it across the room. -I explained how to use a battery jump starter to my wife and son who had never wanted to know in the past.
It jumped the truck and they proceeded to tackle the fresh 8" of snow. The first drive went well. Getting into the second with what the plow trucks throw up was tricky, and the immediate climb and slope. My wife was driving the truck and my son using the snow blower (age got warmth!). Halfway up the incline my wife slowed down and the truck stopped. They barely got it back to the first drive - spinning tires and sliding sideways to the ditch.
My son was gone today - and this is the first day I've had energy - even running the O2 on 8 l/m for my IPF.
I got the snow cleaned up where she had gotten stuck - punching through an edge of it. Heading over to the barn I got stuck after some bouncing The plow was hung up. The underneath was snow. - Things are different. My wife as she has with all of the chores - did the dead work. She shoveled to free up the plow, and then shoveled the snow underneath and the tires. The truck rolled free. I finished the barn yard and we are ready for another storm this week.
I'm 68 now and my wife is 66. With care and time she'll manage the plowing as she needs to. My son is available via phone between his 2 jobs.
I never thought I'd watch my wife shovel as I sat in a warm cab. Things happen. I imagine we all are living through versions of this story.
Last year I was using my tractor and bucket!
