It shook it self to pieces. First identifying all the cracks and then cutting out the damaged area:

I’ve been scrounging for some 3/16 inch plate but haven’t found any therefore decided to finally just cut down some quarter inch plate using the shaper

Roughing cutter, single pass after flattening it out. Even with roughing cutter it leaves a good finish

Haven’t seen a shaper used in decades. My dad had a Smith & Mills bull wheel shaper, and a Cinci hydraulic one later. He had a couple of Hendy lathes.

I like them for this task (big flat facing.) Let it cut and I go do something else.

We used to use them to cut profiles, moving the clapper box up or down, chasing the line. Lots of squaring up stock, sometimes slots. Lot of memories there. Never seen a Hendy shaper, only lathes. That machine looks to be in great shape, did you have to restore it?

Nope, came like that, I got lucky
It is the Cadillac of their (and all) 12 shapers
Auto feed on table and clapper, universal table so vise tilts, spins and rotates

I have some internal squares to cut, I don稚 have the shaper tool that accepts the bar to do this so I have to make that first

Cut to fit now to cut hole and weld in eccentric bearing stock

Your friend own a bakery? I’d guess there aren’t a lot of bread slicer repair guys.
