And maybe a bunch of slack in the timing chain caused the valves to be out of sync? Or maybe this has gear driven cam? Doesn't seem like sticky valves could make that much trouble. Good luck with it.

turns out all 4 intakes were stuck hard as a rock, and with that, 4 bent intake push rods.

gear driven, and as far as I can tell, non interference engine.

valves simply stuck so hard that the pushrods bent.

she was actually a great running engine.. no oil useage, good oil pressure, idled and purred like a kitten, started easilly.. etc.. etc.

junky bad gas and varnish...

If you haven't tried Berrymans b-12 please do so now it will do a real good job of cleaning the varnish on those stems and a rubber hammer on top lightly tap should free them up. good luck

a rubber hammer and I'd still be there.. :)

ended up needing a copper mallet.. but got em moving.

will continue to clean em before I put it all back together..

isn't the b12 a fuel addative too?

Yes thats correct it is but they make a 12 oz squeeze can and a gallon size bulk that is the full strength version that is very strong it eats carbon and oil and varnish like you cant believe. The fuel additive is watered down so to speak.

edit: I may be mistaken I looked for the squeeze can I refer to being available I dont find it anymore but the product was (is) the carb choke cleaner its good stuff. We just used to get it in squeeze cans and refill them out of a gallon can in the shops I worked at. Fact I still have a gallon can of it I fill a 1 qt pressurized spray can with. Everything is aerosol these days and you get very little product. fwtw

Possibly?

I know we used to use it all the time to get lifters out. You know the sludge ring under the lifter boss in the block that holds lifters in that stuff will eat that ring off in a couple seconds just running down the sides of the lifter its mean!
