Kubota L3901 & LA525
I'm just about set on the 1428v hydro but would like others opinions. This form seems much quiter than either the JD or the Kubota forms. Is that because there are that many fewer massey owners out there? Does that mean parts and/or service will be more difficult?

Has anyone compared the 1428 hydro and the Kubota 7800hst? On paper, they seem like they're just about the same. The Kubota has a couple extra HP but the PTO HP is almost identical. Any comments on the two loaders? Is the Kubota loader any better than the massey (or vise-versa)?

I don't want to over analyze this but want to make sure I don't buy something that I'll regret.

thanks,
gary

You asked in another post "Anyone have opinions on which is "better" between a kubota 7800hst and a MF 1428v? The massey is cheaper by about $500."
When I was looking at tractors the local kubota dealer turned me off and I wasn't impressed with their "operation". They had several tractors on the lot but the primary business operation is selling big trucks. No visible "tractor related" parts or service on the place.
The local NH dealer (I had a TN65 at the time) is a good guy, good service, etc., but I really wasn't satisfied with anything in his product line for my needs.
The MF dealer was moving into a new facility dedicated to "tractor/equipment" sales and maintenance. Good people. Good parts in stock. Shop was clean and appeared organized. I was comfortable with the tractor. The price wasn't too bad...
You're going to have to decide which tractor you're most comfortable with, or "fits" you best. Take the dealership into the consideration when making that choice. I really believe that if you're looking at established national "brands" the better tractor is the one that feels best for your bottomside.

Massey Ferguson is the number one selling brand name for ag-tractors world wide. But when it comes to CUT sales they are a bit off the mark of most brands sales wise. Not sure if it is because they do not really push them,or that the dealers have not fully embraced what they have to sell yet. On awhole AGCO does not have to take a back seat to anybody in the CUT arena when it comes to product. But they definately need to do some heavy duty marketing for all three colors!! Hmmmm.........wonder if Valtra will get Isekis? If so will they offer all the colors?-

The 1428v tractor is an excellent model. The new Hydrostatic version is feature well and has a good price. The Kubota B7800 is slighlty d-spec'd in comparison. Both are good tractors and loaders as well. You will be happy with the Massey, they are excellent tractors.

I think you'll find the construction of the two tractors to be quite different - as I have pointed out on several other posts, the Kubota B series units are built using a fabricated steel chassis, while most other tractors use a more traditional gear case / casting structure. That is why the B's are so light. I think the 1428 is held together with the castings. There are advantages / disadvantages of both methods, it depends on what you're gong to do with it.

I've been checking out the same two models for a future purchase myself. Since we own one Kubota and 5 MF's, I'm torn. However, the biggest positive for me is the 4 cyl in the Kubota v. a 3 cyl in the MF.

I had pretty much decided on the MF. Why is 3 cyl vs 4 cyl a big deal?

The two dealers are pretty much equal and the 1428v is $500 less than the kubota and the mf deal is selling the woods brush hog for $50 less too.

I own a 1428 geared, besides the tranny I can let you know that the tractor itself works wonderful. I'm amazed at the power of this little unit, I use it mainly for mowing with a 60" rfm and landscaping. This tractor is probably a little too big for what I need, but the extra power can't hurt.

I went to the Kubota dealer today and drove the B7800 one more time and decided to order the Massey.

Specifications for the two tractors are almost exactly the same. Both dealers seemed good too. So the deal really came down to price and the B7800 was $500 more and they wanted $100 more for the same Woods Brush Hog and a bit more for the rear blade.

I also "just liked" the Massey more. I can't point at why, it just felt like a better fit for me. So I guess I a part of the Massey family now!!

the pricing was:
1428v & 1464 FEL: $15,000
5' woods slip clutch: $950
7' rear blade: $299
total: $16,249

no bad for the amount of tractor I'll be getting /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Now I have to wait for delivery /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The 4 cyl vs. 3 cyl isn't a deal breaker for me in any way, and probably shouldn't be for you either. It's just that in my experience, I would tend to prefer the 4. My opinion of a 4 is that it has more low end power, but I honestly have never run one side by side with a 3 of the same hp for actual comparison. One guy I know has the 7800, and he says that it runs like a tank in the lower gears. Is having a 4 cyl worth the difference in price? Probably not. You will still get good performace from either machine. So, take all this with a grain of salt, and do what makes you happy!
