Pants with tough knees?

There are an outfitter here called R M Williams who make workwear for farmers, shearers and horse riders, their pants are almost bullet proof and made from a drill material or denim, while they last seemingly forever they are quite thick and you tend to walk like a robot, when they get comfortable it generally means they are buggered.
I have had a pair for 30 years and they are still stiff.
I don't know if it makes it to the USA, the pants used to have a button fly as the originator said that shearers could stitch a button on themselves but not a zip.
My work pants have knee pads and lots of pockets in contrasting colours, made by Yakka, another local I think.
Yakka is a colloquialism for work.

I just visited the R M Williams site. WoW!!! They had better be good - $100 to $190.

Really - if there is a serious, tough job - down on the ground. There is just little hope for most any type of pants. Sometime I wear my work pants to town. It looks like I lost the fight in the bull ring or went a round with a timber mulcher.

Hey - isn't the latest style - open knees, slices in the legs, frayed cuffs. I'm right there!!

If I'm in the middle of a project and have to go to town for "stuff", I still wear my "chore jeans" as well. I figure my "looks" are good enough for Menard's or Runnings, and I'm sure I look good enough when I whip out my wallet and my money is good. Haven't had any complaints yet. But I'm not stopping in a ritzy restaurant like that either.

Sorry, I forgot that little detail:eek:
Daughter got a pair of their riding boots for $5 from an opportunity shop, she was over the moon, brand new, not a mark on them, you get lucky sometimes.

The Knees seemed to have lasted longer when we call JEANS, "Dungarees"..., and we used to buy them because they were the biggest bang for the buck !

Now I am lucky if they last a few months and the knees are torn through or the upper thighs are ready to pop; I'm guessing it's a GREED thing.

I used to wear Lee's, Boot Cut, great pants but can't find them now. I guess all the good things go away and we are left with the cheap junk !

Anyway... I didn't start this Thread, but I appreciate all of the postings, I WILL be checking out some of the brands posted, thanks !

What's cooler than ripped out knees?

People are just plain weird. People aspire to earn six figures, wear a rolex (or better) but want to look like a field worker with torn trousers.

Some women (and Dwight Yoakam) can really pull off the look though. lol

maybe it started with Def Leppard's Joe Elliot... 30+ years later the fad is back- kind of a "Hysteria" :D

I just buy the cheap under $15 jeans at either walmart or sams club and run with those. When the knees wear thin they become "chore jeans", then when they blow completely out, I toss them. I've looked at the high dollar carhart jeans, and even looked at the duluth "fire hose" work pants... Yeah, right. I 'aint payin' that.

Same here, wranglers or rustlers from walmart. Only with mine, when the knees wear thin, they become donations to goodwill.

You get what you pay for. A pair of jeans that lasts is going to cost a lot more than the $15 cheapies from Walmart.

I used to hate the old-school dungarees when I was a kid. As someone else mentioned, they were stiff as a board. By the time they'd softened up enough to be comfortable they were well on their way to the rag bag.

The only clothes of mine that go to Goodwill, etc. are either ones I've "outgrown" or stuff I never wear. I'll wear work clothes until they disintegrate. Knees wear out I'll patch them once, then make cutoffs out of them.

Is an "opportunity shop" the same thing as what we call a thrift store?
We really need an Aussie<->American English dictionary!

Donations of goods for a cause, most likely the same thing, known as 'op shops'.
I picked up a leigh dovetail jig for $10 almost new.
