going full desperate here. Lost the nut to my Pivot Trim weeder head. AWESOME item with the right line. It takes a left threaded nut
and no one in my area carries them. I googled all week and had no results except to purchase a new one. Anyone out there have one
and the means to verify the nuts used?

Call the mfr? Get or borrow a thread pitch gauge? And McMaster Carr has everything in hardware once you id the thread. Good luck. Jim

Can't you buy a nut that fits your weed eater and a few modifications to get it to fit? I bought the hardware to put a brush blade on my weed eater ( left hand nut and splined washer ) at the local co-op for $5.

really dude.. did you read my entire post? let me repeat the key line " and no one in my area carries them. I googled all week and had no results except to purchase a new one " further more we do not have co-ops here..we have lowes and tractor supply.. add to that I reside a good 45 mins outside of town and oh yeah there's that reply about nursing a bad knee. Maybe it's my old fashion way of thinking.. add to if you have something to add to.if not , don't comment. I even pointed out in a reply nursing a bad knee. so with all I shared...your reply of " Can't you buy a nut that fits your weed eater and a few modifications to get it to fit? I bought the hardware to put a brush blade on my weed eater ( left hand nut and splined washer ) at the local co-op for $5." is of no help what so ever!! If I could have done that I wouldn't have posted to begin with. What in the world has happened to common sense that it is rare even in the farm community

Ritch,

I lost the LH nut to my weed eater a couple of months ago and also had a hard time finding one, my local "Fastner" store doesn't even carry LH nuts. I found mine at Home Depot with the pre-packaged lawn care items. I don't remember if I saw it on line (I looked) but it was in the store when I was looking for LH nuts. I also live out of town so I had to wait until I was in town to run my errands.

P.S. I seem to notice that posters get more answers when they don't flame out on people trying to help.

How the heck are we supposed to get you an exact replacement without knowing the model of your weed eater? Even if I did have something else to add I wouldn't at this point. You just keep looking on your own.

What size is it? 1/2"/ 3/4"? Is it fine thread or coarse thread?
With the size and the fine/coarse threadpitch you can order a metric and SAE left hand nut in that size from Amazon or Ebay and go from there.
Looking online, it appears that the Pivotrim is just the head. You need to look at who made the weedeater to know what nut is needed. It looks like many use a 9/16 fine thread which takes this nut: Amazon.com : Husqvarna 5324234 Top Lock Flange Nut, 9/16-inch For Husqvarna/Poulan/Roper/Craftsman/Weed Eater : Lawn Mower Handle Parts : Patio, Lawn & Garden

If you can determine the thread diameter and pitch (and metric or SAE), Fastenal will ship you a replacement quick. Their shipping isn't cheap, but in my case is way less than a round trip to town (on a bad knee) and is fast in my experience. I usually confirm thread specs by matching up to a set of taps/dies. Many times I have thought a thread was one thing, but proved it to be different by just holding a tap up against the male thread. 7/16 and M10 are very difficult to tell apart without doing this.
