Polaris 1990 Big Boss ATV -type II transmistion

Anyone know what the black knobe that turns is on down behind the right leg on the big boss transmistion. There is a brake calabier mounted on the transmistion. And a black knobe that turns. or how you would adjust the knob?
The ATV is slipping out of gear easier than used too in high gear also. Have to keep it in low more often too?
