Popping out of gear

First off, hope everything is ok with the child. This being as long a thread as it is I don't want to re read the whole thing but just wanting to remind you to pull the strainer and clean it while you are changing your fluid. Probably have but I can't see it. I believe your 2000 will hold about 16 quarts.

Yep 4 gallons of UTF, or universal tractor fluid.

Well got a chance to check out the tractor. The shift plate part didnt fix the problem. Its still jumping out under heavy load.

I have figured its probably the ball detent system as it stays in gear without using a mower or cultivating.

I did the Carey fix and put a bungy on it and managed to bush hog 2 heavy acres, and cultivate and disc my pumpkin patch and it didnt jump out of high at all.

also changed the oil while I was there, that was needed big time.

I managed to run something over and catch a flat tire, which is gonna need to be repaired next trip.

Always something.

With that being the only problem it would drive me nuts. My guess still to be in the Ball and Seat. I won't take credit for the bungy. I believe thats Cali. but you do what you have to do. I've used a few Ghetto rigs that I'm not proud of and a few that I am. :D

Yes that was me with the bungee fix. It has been dead reliable since 2003.

"Its good enough for the girls I go with!", as an old Carpenter buddy used to say.

:D

My YM2000 has the same problem with high gear. I asked at the local dealer about what it was and he said he could temporary fix it or order the needed parts and he'd/I'd have to split the tractor. The temp fix involved draining the oil and carefully reaching into the tranny and appling one bead of weld to a certain gear. Without a steady hand you'd end up with bad results and it'd cost more than the actual fix. I can't remember any of the details as this was last year when I learned all this. The Cali Mod lasted me one summer before it started to grind some here and there under hard work. So now high is just for moving place to place without the PTO in use.

That would be one of the two gears needing replaced....
