Since moving to my little 1.0736 acre abode, my L3830 HST with TnT and 84" finish mower has not seen many hours. I have a potential buyer for it. I still need a wheelbarrow replacement. The Kubota BX seems to fit the model I need but has certainly received its share of owner complaints. From battery hold downs to chincy fenders made of un-reinforced plastic, I am not so sure this is what I want. Any alternatives to the BX? I did this once before and I got Mahindra tractors that physically were not possible. The price might have been there, but I don't want that much tractor anymore. Having gone from a very heavy International 454 diesel to a Kubota L48 to a Kubota L3830 and now with even smaller needs, I want something light, probably diesel, HST not a must, MMM for sure. I must admit to not having visited the JD or NH forums but rely on the expertise here to inform me. Basically, whats out there  in the small tractor choices? Oh yeah, I need a loader and would like to eventually get a tiller.

RaT,

I thought that the fender issues were fixed with the latest models. True?

Hey Rat. If you aren't going to use it for mowing... how about a B7410. Cheap, simple and still quite capable. They are gear shift, no mid PTO and no power steering. If you just need to do some basic tractor work from time to time... you can't beat it for the price. If I would have been a little quicker... I would have bought one from a dealer about 75 miles away. They had only one and the price was $5495!! I saw the ad and called a day to late. If you want one to use for mowing also... I would think a BX or Massey GC would be a great fit.

I don't know if there's any true competitor's comparison to be made with the BX. It seems Kubota has essentially cornered the market on the true SCUT there. Ask your dealer about the plastic fenders and express your other concerns. Even though I'm into overkill and am probably planning to get too big of a tractor for my property if I had 1 acre I'd think twice about getting a B series and would likely favor the BX. That being said, if you're planning on doing 50% or more of your tractor work material handling, landscaping, and tilling I think a B series would be a good choice even on small acreage. But if most of your applications would be mowing I'd lean toward the BX. On either one I'd get a MMM.
