I have a 'new' (only dug about 15 holes) PHD and the output shaft seal is leaking. (I bought the PHD last summer but stored it till this Spring, so the 90 day warranty is out)

I changed the seal but must have buggered it up cause it still leaks. I have some new seals ordered and tips on installing these simple things will be appreciated.
I tapped the new seal in place using a small block of wood and tapped that with a mallet. I did have trouble getting it started level, one side would go in deeper, which is maybe where I damaged the new seal.

Any tips on making this simple job as simple as it should be?

Thanks

Ken

Hi Ken, I always try to find a socket that fits the outside of the seal or a piece of pipe then tap the new seal in. You can try electrical conduit (ridged or EMT) or some plumbing PVC pipe may also work. This helps to tap the seal in uniform.

Maybe take an inch block of wood, and drill a hole with a hole saw, if you have one to slip over the shaft, then the socket, pipe, or whatever...

Thanks TD and DJ. I found a 2 1/2" dust collector fitting in the shop and made that work. I appreciate the suggestions
