Hi All TBN'ers: please share your wisdom...

I work with a small group of organic vegetable growers who have already purchased some shared equipment, and are planning the next set of purchases. High on this next list is a potato digger that can be used on small farms, where the power and traction will come from machines in the ~25-45hp range, including old Massey's and brand new Kubotas. Several of these farms grow on some mighty sloping lands, and not everyone has yet gotten all of their weeds under control, so successfully digging potatoes can be a challenge.

I have browsed and googled around, and have come upon a few references to the Checchi & Magli SP 100. The manufacturer claims that it works great both on slopes and through weeds. They have a neat video of it in operation at their web site, but of course that one is of a weedless, flat field.

Anyway, here is the link:

MACCHINA RACCOLTA PATATE | MACCHINE AGRICOLE | TRAPIANTATRICI | PACCIAMATRICI | AIUOLATRICI | trapianto piantine - coltivazione ortaggi

I would greatly appreciate thoughts from anyone who has experience with this unit and/or knowledge of other units that would work well in our circumstances. Thanks,

-otus

The Zaga Potato Digger is a one row 3 point hitch mounted PTO powered digger. It is designed for use on tractors that straddle one row of potatoes that are centered under the tractor, since the digger can not be offset. The potatoes must be grown in a hill, since it will only dig hilled potatoes because the shoe can not be adjusted to go below ground level. It is available in two models. The CPM has a 3' long chain and the CPL has a 5' long chain for clay soils.

CPM $2,650.00
CPL $2,750.00
