I'm a bit confused with the power beyond and selective control valve business. I know if I want to attach a log splitter to the 3PH, I'll need the power beyond option to run it. But will I need an additional SCV? A dual SCV? And what does the electric diverter valve do?

Can some either give me or point me to a quick tutorial?

First of all, why did you post this in a Kubota forum when you have a JD? Kubota does not use the term SCV. They use the industry standard terms remote or spool valve. The hookup options below pertain to Kubota but for the most part can be applied to any make of tractor.

You have 2 options to add a log splitter to you tractor. You can have your dealer install a power beyond tap like they do for a backhoe. There is no specific Kubota part number for this. The drawbacks to this option is that usually the 3pt lift arms will be disabled whenever the power beyond tap is being used and the ports must be jumpered when not in use. This type of hookup requires an external spool valve for control of the implement (like what you would find on a backhoe or splitter).

The other option is a set of rear remotes. These can be rather pricey ($400+) depending on whether or not you use the factory setup or an external aux valve. Remotes are controlled via a fender mounted lever. In order to run a log splitter, or backhoe for that matter, you must tie the lever to one of the open position witha bungie cord to allow continuous flow to the implement. The 3pt is still functional with this option.

An electric diverter will take one of the existing hydraulic functions, usually one of the loader functions like the bucket curl, and split it so that with a flick of a switch it can control either of two different sets of hydraulic cylinders. This is typically used for grapple setups but the uses are endless.

Beats the heck out of me how the post wound up here. I thought I was in the JD O&O forum. You're a gentleman and a scholar to provide an answer and not beat me up for this newbie mistake.
