There have been many local meetings about the shale drilling and pipelines to follow. Not sure what county you actually live in, but the local paper or again, the Farm and Dairy have listed many of these meetings. Also, the Farm Bureau has been quite active in getting the word out. You may want to contact them to see what information they have to assist you before the pipeline company gets serious. Once the easement is filed at the recorder's office, it is very hard to change. Also, our gas/oil wells and the pipeline have been sold several times, so the only documents that matter are the ones recorded. The easement will be there for as long as the pipeline, so if you have children that will take over the property, be sure they are not held to the flame later - sharing the cost of a lawyer with the neighbors is a good idea.

There is a pipeline informational meeting June 4 at 7:00 pm at McMahon Hall, Mill Creek Metroparks Farm on State Route 46 in Canfield (Mahoning County) Ohio. Sponsored by the Mahoning County Farm Bureau. Ten dollar charge for non-Farm Bureau members. You can call the Farm Bureau at 330-533-5553 to register or find out more information about the meeting if you like.

I went through this on my property but it was on the road (I own to the center) they wanted 50 ROW and another 50 for construction from me and the other guy and they could use any for surface use for 2 6" gas lines and one 6" water line.

After the negotiation it ended up 25 ft and 30 ft construction and no surface use this was from each side so they got 50 ft row for the road with all three pipes in there. They explained why they needed larger footage to straighten the run there are bad S bends in the road.

Good luck and Lawyer up!

Make sure you spell out the usage and # of pipes and their size then if they want to add later you get paid again.

read up on ROW here

Good luck, you're going to need it. The Koch Brothers aren't amazingly wealthy for no reason. The pipeline companies have an army of very experienced lawyers to go against the family lawyer you and your neighbors will put up.

Thanks guys. So far they tell me this is only a study and have several options. I don't want this thing screwed up so I will use an attorney if we get that far.

Just dont sign anything with out your lawyer looking at it. They may try to pressure you but just let you lawyer look at the paperwork first.

Should also check into gates or fence on property lines across the ROW. Up here in Michigan ROW seems to mean horse trail, nature path, hunting clearing, ATV and snowmobile cruising area.
