My 2005 M105X seems to really like the fuel.I was wondering how much better the fuel usage is with the newly designed engine Kubota says is more efficent. What other pros and cons with the new engine verses the old?

I'd not figure any difference or that it would be negligible if any. We have sold quite a few tractors in that size though the years and have found the fuel usage of Kubota's to be quite stingy by comparison to the tractors they replaced.

I'd wonder if you might be using it for something that you might have more benifit from going up one size to get better fuel efficency.

I agree. The newer engines in my ag tractors don't seem to use much less fuel than the older tractors. They certainly do smoke less at idle or under load. The newer engines seem to be quieter but I believe that is in part due to the high pressure common rail injection.

I keep hearing rumors of DPF's (diesel particulate filters) coming to the ag/construction machines in the near future. Currently used on newer diesel pickups. That will most likely have a significant impact on diesel useage - more fuel required to burn out the filter and increased back pressure.
