PTO Clutch too weak?

First off I've got a Montana 2734 which has been an awesome tractor! It's got 140 troublefree hours of doing everything from road repair to tree hauling. However this week we put a 3 ft tiller on behind it and found what seems to be a PTO problem. When I engage the PTO and lower the tiller I can only go down maybe 2 inches into soft dirt before the tiller stalls out. The tractor RPM's never change and it doesn't even seem like the tractor is under any load at all. It's like the PTO clutch just slips with almost no load on it. Is there an adjustment for the clutch pressure somewhere? Any other ideas?

Has the tiller got a slip clutch on the PTO shaft at the tiller.? It may be slipping. Does the pto shaft leading to the tiller stop? If so the problem is in the tractor. If that shaft continues to spin but the implement stops, the problem is outside the tractor. Those external slip clutches are adjustable. If you have one it is probably that and needs adjustment by turning the nuts to compress the springs more.

I second what SPYDERLK said. Check to see if the slip clutch on the tiller is slipping to much. If it is you either have to just tighten the bolts to compress the springs a little more or replace the friction plates as they might me worn to much. You should also smell it if it is slipping to much.

hass did you figure it out? what was it. i did'nt think there was a pto clutch i tought it was gear driven.

What is the engadment means on this tractor? For some reason i think it is electric over hydrulic to engade the pto. I tend to think the slip clutch is your problem.
