Hi guys, I just purchased my Yanmar 2220D a couple of weeks ago and i'll have to say I am really impressed with it so far. It really out performs my old Ferguson TO30.

One slight [I hope] problem that I have observed is that the PTO shaft turns even when it is in neutral. It is turning slowly and it dosen't take much force to stop it altogether. I even thought that when I installed my over-running clutch that the extra weight would stop it, but it still turns. I haven't hooked my brush hog up to it yet but I am pretty sure that it will not turn the blades in the neutral position.

Since I haven't received my manual yet [I do have an owners manual] I really don't know if there is an adjustment that I can make to stop the shaft from turning in neutral, I assume that there is a brake of some kind to keep it from turning?

Am I doing any harm by using the tractor while in this condition?

Thanks for any input.

BTW this is a great Forum, and is one of the reasons I purchased a Yanmar in the first place.

That slow spinning is perfectly normal-especially when the oil is cold. It is usually just caused by the friction of the oil in the transmission. There is no brake or adjustment that will stop it. It should not have enough force to turn the mower. As long as you have the correct type of oil in your transmission you will not hurt anything.

Relax and enjoy your tractor :)

Thanks for the welcome, I plan on hanging around for a long time.

I'm glad I found this Forum. Before I bought my Yannie I did a ton of research on various tractors. I would love to have a John Deere, Kubota, etc, but as I am now retired money is an issue.[isn't it always?] So instead of going that route I started researching the various imports and found that I could get more tractor for my $$$. Thanks to this site I found all the info I needed.

See ya around the "farm."

The YM2220D is a really nice model in my opinion, and the PTO shaft barely turning is normal as already stated.
