pto will not engage ls xr4145hc 26 hours

I got 26 hours on her 15 bush hogging to day 3 hours in very light grassy field 24 inches maybe the pto just dies



blown fuse

put one in pto kick on s 3 sec later blown fuse

instead of 15 put a 20 and 30 in same thing pto cuts on runs for a few seconds and dies



all wiring looks good i suspect bad coil

dont care to take it 150 miles one way for warranty ( may have to )

I may get them to send me coil and i can put it on

i reckon the coil is dead shorting ? but i am no electrician

any one know the ohms specs for the coil

I'm not familiar with this LS brand of tractor but:

With any electrical problem, Putting increasingly larger fuses into a faulty circuit is pure folly. The blown fuse is a warning to tell you something is wrong. Fix the problem. :irked:

If you can get to the PTO Solenoid you should be able to disconnect it at the connector itself.

Now if you engage the PTO switch (with no solenoid connected) observe the 15A fuse (because you have now refitted a correctly rated fuse - Yes?) and if the fuse doesn't blow your fault is beyond the connector.
IF the fuse does blow with the solenoid disconnected your fault is in the power side of the circuit (No current is going back up the ground wire) in the loom.

That would be my start in the fault diagnosis anyway. It may save you having to buy a coil...

Again, I know nothing about LS Tractors. Maybe just get even bigger fuses until one works? :banghead:

i am not going to use bigger fuses and burn the thing up there is an issue i just tried that in the field to finish a job

who ever design it ought to be whipped the coil comes off easy except metal hyd line in the way

Well I've given you a clue on how to, at least, isolate the fault. No need to remove the coil at this stage, Just disconnect it. Good Luck.

you are correct

i could take it so i walked out to shop disconnected the harness at solenoid

15 amp fuse in fired up ole blue

turned pto switch on pop

i heard fuse go

so solenoid is not bad

now what i guess it will have to go for warranty or could the switch be bad ?

i really need to finish this cutting job tomorrow cause it is gonna rain for like 4 days

i wonder what harm would it do to run 2 wires with spade terminals to plug on coil to a 12v source with a toggle switch to finish up heck throw an inline fuse in there too

PTO solenoid/valve assembly is hanging up. Pretty easy fix.

That would get the job done and give you time for the dealer to do what they are paid for (By Kubota).

Use Alligator Clips on the Battery terminals for your temporary power supply. Of course, be aware the PTO is now out of the Safety interlock circuit. (!)


The loud 'Pop' indicates a dead short-circuit. Most likely a pinched/chaffed wire touching a metal mounting somewhere - rather than the PTO Switch. Have a poke around, you might find it...

Someone here ("Beenthere" ?) posted a good trick to wire a lightbulb into the fuse socket so it glows when the circuit short-circuits. Saves fuses in diagnostics.

With the bulb in place and the PTO 'ON' - Grasp the loom where you can see it passing an edge and move it around and observe the bulb. When you relieve the short-circuit the bulb goes out. Your fault will be in the area of the loom you're holding.
