First, I have 46 years experience working tractors so I'm not a newbie. How do you get the PTO to turn when hooking up implements? I can hook the 3 points up in less than a minute and spend the next 45 trying to hook up the driveshaft. All my other tractors you can turn the PTO by hand to line it up. It's impossible to turn a brush cutter shaft by hand to line it up. It keeps me from using it because it's such a pain to get hooked up.

I hitch my brush cutter's 3 point pins and lift it up.
Once it's in the air, I can turn the cutter's shaft to align the spline teeth.
I set my tiller on two blocks, one under each skid, which keeps the rotor & tines off the ground & free to spin.
Now that I think about it, I could do the same with the brush cutter, if I parked it on a pair of 4x4s ...

My neighbor has a small leanto he parks all his implements in. He built racks that he can back his implements into while lifted on the three point and sets them in the racks to disconnect. Stuff that rotates, he can rotate while in the stand to make the connections. He is of rather considerable size, and generally he'll back in about a foot away from whatever it is, extend the PTO shaft out to connect it first where he has room to work. Then he'll back up into the implement which pushes the PTO shaft back in and then he'll connect the links. His implement changes typically occur in less time than mine, and I'm in what would be considered "okay shape" and there are people in better shape than he is who run around with handicapped stickers on their cars collecting disability... One day I will make such a rack for my implements.

I rotate the pto shaft on the attachment instead of the tractor.

A long screw driver through the U joint works every time.

On my unit, the PTO on the tractor will not turn one direction and the other direction is "spring loaded". You can turn it by hand, but it always springs back to the same position. I tried using that to get stuff connected a few times but the strength of the spring exceeds what I can hold with one hand while getting the shaft on it. I have since just ensured I was able to rotate the implements where I drop them. Even a huge rotary cutter is easier to turn by hand than fighting with any other methods.

You can't rotate the shaft on a 6' brush cutter with one hand while while trying to push the pin on the shaft and push the shaft on with the other.
