Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time poster. For the past month I've been scouring this forum and a few others trying to figure out what brand of tractor and what size of tractor to purchase. My first thought was a John Deere 1 Series but you guys convinced me I should buy bigger, that extra size, capacity and HP was better than running out of those things and needing to trade up. So I decided on a 2038R and then a 3039R when I couldn't find any 38's in stock anywhere. Then I went to the dealership and looked at them in person and realized the 3 series was way more than I would ever need and probably the 2 series as well. Test drove a 1025R and loved it. I really want to look at Kubota and New Holland, but I have green in my blood. My father bought a JD 420 in 92 and did all kind of work with that tractor for 24 years and when he sold his house the new owner demanded it be part of the purchase. My grandfathers both ran Deere's as well...so I tried to keep an open mind, but growing up around these tractors...I can't even bring myself to look at anything else. You guys also convinced me to get the Front End Loader. At first I couldn't imagine what I would need it for, but after a lot of reading on here I have lots of ideas on how it will make life easier.
I had a quote on a used 1025R, but just decided to go new since I plan on keeping it a very long time. I just bought a 4 acre "mini-farm" and will be purchasing about 8 more acres from an adjacent farm in the future. I need it mainly as a mower but for small farm work as well as taking care of my 800ft gravel/dirt driveway. I also have about .5 acre of land to clear that is about 9 years overgrown. We also have a .5 acre garden that needs tilled twice a year. No horses yet but we do have a 2 stall horse barn. Looking to get some chickens and bee hives in the very near future as well. There is also a pond...not sure if there is anything a tractor can help with it besides clearing the drainage ditch.
The first quote I got was for a 1025R TLB with a 60" Auto Connect Mower. It came in at $24K. I don't really need the backhoe but thought the TLB model might fetch a decent price so I had it quoted. If it was for $21 I would take the backhoe.
The second quote is for a 1025R, 60" Auto Connect Mower, Loader, 5' Rear Blade. He forgot the iMatch hitch in the quote. That one came to $17,500 plus tax out the door. I felt like that was a pretty good price? Adding up the MSRP it is an 18% discount. Dealer has been really nice so far and I like them. I am going to get another quote from the dealer closest to the farm...I could literally drive the tractor home from there. The dealer that did the quote is closest to where I live now, about 45 mins from the new place. Can you buy a tractor at one and have it serviced at another or is that bad taste?
Also, I think I'm going to switch from the 5' rear blade to a blade box. I grew up using a rear blade, clearing snow, leveling ground, spreading gravel, etc. I didn't even realize there was anything like a blade box but I think it will work better at removing the hump from my driveway and raising the low spots and I might possibly be able to till my small garden with it as well (soft ground)? I also have an old shed to tear down and then I need to grade and level that spot and make it bigger for a new carport. So to me the box blade might be what I need.
Should I wait for the 2017's to come out? I still think I will wait for the 2038R's to come out, dealer says they will get one in 2 weeks and price one of those out. It's more than what I need but it may fulfill a future need on a future property without having to upgrade tractors.
