What can I expect for the labor hours to Remove and Replace a casting on the rear of an L4330? guestimate?? It looks like they will have to remove the ROPS, rear wheel and one casting on the rear axle to get to the casting with the broken ear that is the attachment place for the 3 PH.

Are there standard labor hours for specific fixes? Or do dealers charge for actual hours worked? I am guessing four to eight hours. Am I in the ball park?

The casting is about $300. I am guessing about $1000 for the job...good guess? I'll find out Monday or Tuesday but I want to be somewhat prepared for what lies ahead.

Would such a repair typically fall under warranty??

Thanks

Zeuspaul,

If it is the casting that bolts between the axle trumpet and the center housing then you are about right. Assuming that they can do it all without needing to get at the inside of the differential center housing. If it is the center housing, then you are way light.

It is a warranty item as they should not break.

Just for curiosity, what were you doing when it broke?

It would only be a manufacturing defect if it were casted improperly and the break was a result of that. I would take the attitude that it is a manufacturing defect, and let them make the call. If you go in thinking that you are going to have to pay for the repair, they are less likely to call it a manufacturing defect. They will always make more money on the repair if it is a customer job as opposed to a warranty job. When you go in on Monday, take along a box of donuts and a bunch of coffee's. Hard to argue with the guy that just filled your stomach.:D

There is a gasket between the broken casting and the center housing so it is not the center housing that broken. Hopefully the internals are such that they can just R&R the broken casting without having to get into the center of the tractor.

Originally I thought it was the center housing, I was guessing $4000 for that repair and I am not sure I want that done. So I was looking at alternatives such as fabricating something to take its place and attaching to the steel plate at the center draw bar.

I was grading/making a road using the box blade and top and tilt while going backward.

Thanks for the reply

As you well know now going backwards is not a good thing.
I only do it in soft loose dirt.

Have you thought of doing it yourself ??

Doing it myself is certainly an option. But I don't have a clue how involved it might get. I don't have a shop manual and time isn't on my side. I commute 2 hrs one way to work. I have the week after Christmas off and was hoping to do a lot of work with the tractor. I want to plant an apple orchard in January.

I really miss my tractor!!! So I think it is best to have it done.

The service center opens in 15 minutes. Hopefully they will do it under warranty.

Why is there a blade on the back side of the box blade if your not supposed to use it in reverse?

I figure the back blade is for the soft stuff, I'm supprised you didn't bend and arm before breaking a lug.
