Well as the title says I almost lost my ring finger to a 2200rpm fiber reinforced fan. Machine wasn’t running right reached in to check the plug on a sensor and bam. Blood everywhere. Bone exposed entire length of inside finger.

As they say, you should see the other guy. Somehow my finger broke two of the fan blades off. lol.

The worst part I should have stayed home the ground was too frozen and icy to get anything done. I was just trying to get my guys some hours for the week.

Doctors were amazed I was able to do what I did without hitting arteries or tendons. That was what kept me from freaking out, blood everywhere but I could still move it. Was a fun sit in the er from 1230pm to 130am.

So be careful and be thankful you still have ten fingers like me.

I sure am glad you didn't lose your finger. Remember though, no pictures means it didn't happen. Just kidding. Thanks for the warning, we all tend to become complacent at times and a reminder to not do so is a good thing.

Something similar happened to me with the bone sticking out and lose skin hanging off the end of my finger I went inside and told my wife you need to take me to the ER.
At that time there was no pain at all, on the way to the hospital my hand started to hurt really bad so I tell my wife, hurry up this is really hurting bad.

Her comment, "You think that's bad you should try having a baby".

I don't remember my response but she did go a little faster.
They did put me back together and I kept my finger.

After being put back together. Reminded me of stuffing a sleeping bag back in the case.

I was kidding about the picture. I bet that takes a while to heal. You are so lucky you didn't lose your finger. Or even more.

It's always amazing to me how fast an accident can happen.
One minute everything is OK then you are bleeding all over the place saying bad words.

I have found that an injury like that makes the finger prone to frostbite quicker. I have a pair of work mittens because of this. I hope it heals good for you.

Now you can send the engineers of the fan a coffee for building breakaway fan blades. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't designed that way.

Glad you will recover from it.

had you placed your finger in the fan belt pulley....much worse, digit off...
fan belts & pulleys are oft overlooked in circumstances such as your (thankfully fortunate) accident. you may consider posting this incident in Safety forum, regards
