Range lever sticking on m5400

I have a 1998(?) M5400. It's a 4 speed trans with a high/low/reverse range shifter on the left side. You do have to press the clutch to shift it, so I don't believe they call that the shuttle shift, but maybe I'm worng.

Either way, it's sticking and hard to shift between ranges. Getting into low is most difficult. I'm thinking (read hoping) that it's the external linkage. I just changed the trans/hydraulic fluid per the manual and it may have improved slightly.

Anyone with a service manual have any tips on what it could be?

Just spray the linkage with WD-40 once and awhile, I have to with my Kubota L2500.

I believe there's more to it than that, because the joints seem loose enough. It could be an alignment thing with those H shaped blocks or something?

First off, WD40 is a moisture displacer, not a lubricant. I'd try a product like PB Blaster if a lubricant were going to work. That said, my L3700 Hydro which I've had for more than ten years is stuck in Medium range and has been for a good while. I've tried to lube linkages, reverse/forward, clutch in/out and apply pressure directly to case, no luck. The good news is that I can do everything needed on my place in Medium Range. I've also replaced the "wire" that shifts the PTO in and out and wondered about that setup but it's fine again now, for the time being. 600 hours in, all hard work, the tractor is fine otherwise. Don't get a utility cable wrapped around the front drive though or like me, after Hurricane Maria, you will be replacing the front seal and bearing.
