/ Rear End / Trans / Hydraulic oil on '54 NAA - continuous or separate?? #11
I have to agree with rick.

My NAA owners manual dated sept 52 specifies A or C type hyd oil int he hyd ssytem.. not the gear oil it reccomends for the tranny or the diffy.

IE.. the hypoid gear lube is M-4642D or E

The hyd fluid is M-4864A or C

I see similar refs in my X00 and X01 manuals.

I don't doubt there may have been some kind of reginal talk / interoffice memo's between service managers.. whatever happened.. it didn't become global and go out in print in the owners and service manuals.... so.....

It is fine for the common sump that is the transmission, rear axle and hydraulic system of your 8N. Do not put UTF in the steering box, radiator, or oil bath air cleaner.

If I were in the Sahara desert, and there was no oasis in sight, and with spare pails of UTF, I might consider it for any of those uses.
The thread is about transmission/rear axle/hydraulic use. My use of EVERY was a poor word choice.
