My wife and I have pretty much made the decision that a tractor is very near. So now it's down to the details! At current, I won't be purchasing anything that would need rear remotes. But the thought of a hydraulic top link, or a snow blower with a hydraulic chute may be in the future. Is it better just to have the dealer add a rear remote or wait till the need arises before either installing it myself of letting the dealer do it?

On the same topic of now vs. later, am I missing anything else from the package?

JD 790 MFWD
419 Loader w/ hood guard and ballast box
LX5 Rotary cutter w/ slip clutch and chain guards

I was thinking a block heater would be a good idea, but is there anything else I should ask for right off the bat?

Thanks for all the help! It looks like the end is in sight!!!

Get the rear remotes to begin with, in my opinion.

If you can get the dealer to throw in installation of the remotes as part of the deal, do it now. Otherwise doesn't really matter - although $300 burried in the cost of the tractor is easier to swallow than shelling it out later.

Edit - PS - get the block heater. Your tractor will be happier.

If you ever want a front blower or mid-mower, spring now for a mid-PTO.

I've never seen rear remotes on a 790, is it a JD kit or aftermarket? if you do it be sure to post some pics /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Get the remotes NOW. It will always cost more after the sale.

I agree with Bird and Mad. Get them now. If you ever go to sell it will add greatly to the sale. Even though remotes are $500-800 I consistently see tractors at the sales with more than one remote bring more than the cost of the extra remote compared to a tractor with one or no remotes.

I'll go along with the other guys and vote for getting the remotes now. It's a whole lot easier to get it done now than to have to lose your tractor for awhile later to get them added. Plus, like Hazmat mentioned, the cost doesn't seem quite as bad when it's rolled into the entire package.

I like Rob's comment about getting the mid PTO. That would provide for the possibility of a MMM, a front mounted snow blower, or possibly a power sweeper. Also, consider a toothbar for the bucket of your FEL. Granted, they are fairly easy to mount later, but again, it's one less thing to have to worry about and the cost ( ~ $300) isn't quite so visible. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you have it done later, you must consider transport time/cost, and loss of use in your calculations.

Yes Get the Remotes.

However, I made the mistake to ask for rear remotes, and did nt specify that I wanted to use the FEL also.

The remote kit that i got which does't work in my application is two hoses that connect to 2 postions where the FEL hose connects, so you leave 2 to the FEL hoses dissconneted, no good...
Right now i am tring to figure out what needs to be done with my pipes. I dont want the electic soleniod valve $$$. I beleive the Power Beyond kit is what we need. That will give you and open line of power, with no valves, so we'll need to plumb a valve inline later on when you are ready to use the [snowblower] . Please let me know how your dealer does this!! Thanks!!!
If anyone else has already done this let me know!

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to install rear remotes on your tractor at a later date. That said it is still much easier and cheaper for that matter to order them with the tractor and apply the cost to some of that low interest money that the dealers offer.

TNT and hydraulic chutes on snowblowers make life a whole lot easier. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
