Tires Rear tires Split, dry rot?

I have noticed My Montana 4340C with 30 hrs on, that both rear tires have spilts in them, 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch deep and 3-4 inches long it appears to be a dry rot, they are at the base of the traction bar on both rears and on five of the bars the rest are good shape, does anyone know if the warranty on the tires is thru Montana or the tire mfg? My dealer has yet to respond to me!

Make sure you do not have too much air in them, I had one almost new that cracked because of to much air. I lowered the pressure and have not had any more cracks, that has been about three years now.

What brand? If OTR, I have seen dry rot and it was warranty. I will say that what your explaining does not sound the same as what we experienced. The other thing is that most of the OTR problems were front tires that cured wrong and it was limited to R4 only.

They are R4 I see nothing wrong with the fronts. I still have not gotten a response from my dealer. Was yours the tire mfg or Montana that handled the warranty?

I spoke directly with Titans Warranty Department, a simple email with pictures and They have told me they have a tire dealer just 18 miles South of me and will make arrangements to have the farm service truck come out next week and replace both rear tires!! Will keep you posted. By the way, still waiting on my Montana dealer to help with this!

The only I have found to truly prevent dry rot , Renew Protect product line.
It dries and I use only 3-4 times a year.

My brother is a tire quality control engineer, I developed similar cracks on my Titon rear tires after about a year. He told me that the cracking is caused because some manufacturers have stopped using a chemical in the mix. He told me the name but I can't remember it. The chemical stopped the cracking which he said is caused by ozone. He said the only way to keep it from happening is to keep the tire out of the sun, now what good is a tractor if you can't use it in the sun.

Toadhill, that is a very good point. If you keep the tires muddy will that protect them from the sun?

I believe what he ment would be to store the machine{atleast tires} out of the sun when not in use. OR, you could just work at night and park in the shade during the day. I was told the same thing about an old allis chalmers I had.
