I spoke with dealer who was telling me about the new B7610 (B2620?) and he said it had the above mentioned 3 pt control. What is this?

And, has anyone else heard of this new machine?

It's just a plain old hydraulic control valve - same as the one I had on my old IH 300, and now I have it ( quarter inching valve ) on my B7800. The operation of it is explained on page 1-M1 of the workshop manual.Basically, you pull it back and the 3Pt raises , push it ahead and the 3Pt goes down. The farther you pull it back, the faster it goes up. Where the quarter inching terminology comes in , is that they put an adjustable stop on the side of the operating lever slot so that if you pull it over and back to the stop then it just raises at a slow rate. The theory is ( as you saw in the video) that if you pull it back and release it, it will move a quarter inch at a time. This is really a function of how long you hold it there and how heavy your implement is . If you hold it on the stop position long enough, eventually it will come up all the way. Position control is nicer, and the advantages have been debated at length, but it comes down to what you are doing with your 3Pt. I would prefer to have position control, but for what I do, the QIV is quite adequate. I made a position indicator for mine which is somewhat useful for coming back to a known position when using the bush hog or scraper blade, but not entirely necessary.

Fjord has it nailed. Quarter-inching is a misnomer.

The 3 pt hitch control on the B-7800 has a valve just below the operator's seat. I think it is a simple needle valve that slows down or speeds up the raising and lowering of the 3 pt hitch with the 1/4" valve. This aids with more accurately re-positioning your implement due to the slower hydraluic flow. I use gage wheels on my rake to control the depth of the tines, but my rear blade is a little more difficult to reposition. In retrospect I would have gone with the B3030 for the extra $1,600 a year ago. Amortize the extra cost over the life of the tracor and it is small for the better "Draft Control" of the 3 pt hitch, the larger heavy duty 60" FEL bucket, adjustable steering wheel and different gage package and better seat.

I agree. When I bought mine , I'd started off looking at a used B1700, then for a bit more I could get a new 7510 , but geez 30 Hp would be nice so why not a B7800? Or maybe a 3030. Problem was , I'd come so far up in price from what I'd initially started looking at that I had to draw the line somewhere. In addition to that nobody in my area had a B3030 that I could actually sit on and try so I went with the B7800 which I have been more than satisfied with so far. Bialeki is right though, if the extra features will make your life easier (telescoping 3Pt stabilizers are nice) then the extra cost is just a few $ more over the life of your tractor. Besides that, everyone here is always more than happy to help you spend your money.:D

Thx all. The video was particulalry good.

My understanding is that this machine will be out in March 08 and will have a BH that has a subframe with optional mech thumb, 9 GPM hydro pumps and a few other upgrades. I'm trying to get the smallest tractor that is above the SCUT size to replace my L3830.

I've been looking at the JD 2320 & 2530, but there are a few things that are holding me back on those. The JD's would have position control, but after seeing the video I think the 1/4" Valve thing would be fine.

If you plan on using a box blade or scraper, you will find the inching valve very challenging or frustrating; this is from personal experience too!

Agreed but I would have gone up to the Grand L3130:)

I am very happy with my B7800 and for my needs it is perfect. I recently reversed the front tires and bought tire chains for the front R4's. I now have v-bar chains on the front and back tires and my B7800 has turned into a tank for moving snow and forest work. The width, ground clearance and wheel base really work for me. I now realize that HP/weight without traction doesn't mean much.

Besides for that $1600 differential I bought a WR Long valve kit, bucket grapple, rear blade, carry-all and the rear tire chains. For my needs the B7800=$value
