Hello, I was wondering has anybody wired a remote on/off PTO on a Kubota tractor? During our grape harvest, when unloading grapes from the grapes trailer (auger/pump, pto driven) in to our destemmer, sometimes I am alone running it all, it would be really helpful.

When the destemmer is full I need to run in to the tractor to shut the pto off, when the destemmer catches up, I need to turn it back ON. I need to stand next to the destemmer because I need to watch for any hard (scissors, rocks..) objects in the grapes.

I did some research, I think I will need a remote and a remote/relay, found some cheap ones running on 533 MHZ and a DPDT 12V relay to piggy back the priginal PTO switch and an isolation switch to kill power to it when I do not need this option.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Anything is possible if you have the time, money and motivation to do it.

If you have employees and live in a place like Canada with labour laws then be prepared for big fines and jail time if a worker/bystander gets injured or killed because your automation didn't use appropriate safeties and guarding to protect workers and bystanders from injury due to unintended activation of your device.

He hee, Luckily I do not live in Canada/USA... to many lawsuits, regulations there.

I forget which models but Massey Ferguson had the feature from the factory.
The tractors were bigger than what I needed so I don't know how it worked out or if it is still available.
I saw it as a potential death trap.
You know some dummy was going to use it while reaching over too far...

Any of the various electrically operated PTO's should be operatable with a remote switch as you desire too.
They are some commercial setups available.
Here is a link to one of them;

For safety reasons, I don't recommend doing it, but some newer Kubota tractors use an electric clutch on the PTO. If so, it should be simple to tap the circuit with an RF or Bluetooth remote relay. If range isn't an issue, more than 30' or so, I would use Bluetooth since there is less chance of unwanted activation from RF interference.

This one uses your smartphone as the transmitter:

Or this one which uses separate transmitters:

I know it is something that would be a safety issue but everything working the fields is. Accidents happen no matter what, just as long as one is not dumb.

Yes, this little Kubota has an Push turn latch button, three wires, switching the voltage from the common to ether one of the pins. I am thinking I can do this with a SPDT relay and a relay remote. I only need this a few days a year, I might not even use it is there is someone around to hold the hose and watch the destemmer as I control the PTO...

Thank you all.

May be safer and easier to run parallel wiring to a push turn latch button mounted on the grape trailer. I definitely would not want a cellphone app for it.

I was thinking of the parallel extension cord type of a switch, installed somewhere, I wanted to buy a Kubota switch for this, I almost fainted, 190 euros for the switch. I researched some other, those switches are pricey, cheaper way was the remote way...

I was also thinking of making an extension cable, 5-6 m, 3 Pin Deutsch connector... I do not have tools for these connectors and they are hard to get here.

I did this with my pumps, three phase and two phase in my basement, I could not bealive the price of ready made commercial remotes for three phase pumps. I built mine from junk I found around the garage.
