Remote ON/OFF PTO

   / Remote ON/OFF PTO #11
I was thinking of the parallel extension cord type of a switch, installed somewhere, I wanted to buy a Kubota switch for this, I almost fainted, 190 euros for the switch. I researched some other, those switches are pricey, cheaper way was the remote way...

I was also thinking of making an extension cable, 5-6 m, 3 Pin Deutsch connector... I do not have tools for these connectors and they are hard to get here.

I did this with my pumps, three phase and two phase in my basement, I could not bealive the price of ready made commercial remotes for three phase pumps. I built mine from junk I found around the garage.
Wow, I was thinking oem switch too, no way I’d pay that. Just a regular e-stop should work. Of course, I have 0 clue which store to send you to.

If you could wire up a 'dead man' type switch that would need to be held, it might be safer.. Dunno how that would work for your setup and work needed though.

I would mount a switch on the grapes trailer and hard wire it to a plug on the tractor. I would further make the PTO switch on the tractor only work when the remote switch on the grape trailer is not connected. Then there is only one place to turn the PTO on, Either the tractor or the trailer. Not knowing how the kubota is wired, so I can’t help more than that.

Wire the tractor and the remote switches in series. They have to be both on for things to activate and consequently, the pump can be stopped with either of them. Quite safe; unlike parallel wiring you don´t get surprises because off is always off. For the plug you might take a professional metal 3-prong microphone chassis and plug that do have a screw ring to hold it in place; those are used by bands and singers, are very sturdy and cost somewhere under 10 Euros. If the remote is not connected, a replacement plug must be hardwired through internally, otherwise the tractor switch will not do anything. For safety go for wiring; you can't trust technically simple and insecure things like bluetooth or anything wireless.

Thank you guys, much appreciate the input.i ordered some 3 pin Deutsch pigtails, they should plug right in when I unplug the original switch, it is easily removed… I will hardwire the wire in to the trailers, we have two. Use the original switch by making a easy removing mount.

I would not want the switch to be exposed to the weather while in storage, it has a original tarp but still.

Some photos of the trailers…

Hi guys, I did it, it works like a charm, I was going to do it via a cable, a switch on the grapes trailer but I went back to the original plan, remote control 433Mhz, simpler, cheaper, I live in an area where I am probably the only one in miles that uses anything on this frequency...

I will only use this one ca year, for the harvest, I added two safety switches, one keyed and one that powers the relay, both need to be turned ON for the remote to work.

I was going to post a video here but no go for videos on this forum...

Anyhow, thank you all for any and all input.

Regards,
