Out back near the road I have a pole with an anchor near it.
The anchor is about two feet away from the pole and is not used.
I want to remove this anchor as it has jumped out in front
of the mower twice now. The anchor is slightly bent and is
loose enough that it can be rotated so that it is almost level with the ground.
Twice now I've mowed near it and it got caught by the deck and
rotated up to hit the blades.
First time was with my Murray 14.5 HP 42" (best dang mower ...)
and just tonight with the BX.
I tried tying a chain onto it and lifting with the 3pt.
It lifted the front of the tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

How deep are those anchor?
Plan B is to dig out around it and hack saw it off well below grade. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Dave,

Can you pull them out with your FEL? I used the FEL on my tractor to pull up about half a dozen mobile home anchors last year. I angled the edge of the FEL under each anchor and lifted up on it. Most of the anchors took several tries because the FEL would lose its "grip" but eventually I was able to pop all of them out of the ground.

Dig down around it and blow it off with a torch.

Dave,

I have removed a couple of these anchors by unscrewing them. The end of the rod is screwed into the anchor, by turning counter clockwise you will unscrew it and be able to pull the rod out of the ground. The ones I have removed were 8 feet long.

Some of the ones I ran into are driven in w/ an arbor and the rod only turns.
So I just dig down and use the gas axe or sawz-all like said above.
Yes the are DEEP unlike mobile home anchors.

Go with Plan B.....you can likely hacksaw it off within minutes, problem is then solved.

I'd try unscrewing it from the ground first. You may have to apply some upward pressure to it to get it to bite coming out. If that didn't work then saw it off well below grade. They are usually about 8 feet but I have seen longer.

Attach a chain to it, Attach chain to FEL. Pull the FEL up till its tight then take a crowbar and turn the post out. You might have to adjust the FEL upwards as you do it.

If thats to much work dig down a foot and cut it off.
