Removing christmas trees stumps

/ Removing christmas trees stumps #51
I've got 30 acres full of cedar trees that I've been slowly clearing. The tree sizes range from small to quite large. My method is to use a backhoe to rip the lateral roots out, and then use the tractor/grapple to push the tree over and grab it with the grapple and haul it to a burn pile.

My method is effective, but slow. It's a losing proposition on 30 acres. I'm about ready to just hire a dozer for 2 or 3 days and then deal with the cleanup mess that I know will be facing me.

I didn't read all the posts because I know what worked for me: I used a super duty, 125 hp rated single shank ripper on a 90hp tractor in 4wd and drove over the top and popped out almost every one of my stumps. No big deal.

What didn't work is a small backhoe. I had to move multiple times and left holes and roots sticking out and stumps full of dirt.

The species of tree that was used for Christmas trees could be a huge variable in what you need to remove them.
When we were running a 30,000 tree Christmas tree operation, we planted trees that were genetically created by Texas A&M just for use as Christmas trees.
The stumps of these trees would rot very quickly and we could remove them by kicking with a boot aprox 14 - 15 months after the tree was cut.
A moldboard plow would have no problems at all in one of these fields a year after cutting.

I'd suggest you find out what species of tree stump you're dealing with, then research how fast they will rot in your environment.

At 3 feet per second, it would take 20 or 30 hours just to walk along and kick them all.

It would take me longer, I only have 2 feet each second

Just a follow up on my stumps. Had a John Deere 35 come in this w-end. Removed 750 stumps,
took 6-7 hours. Gives me the room for a food plot. Balance of them still rotting. Only solution I found.

Cheers
