How about hand cleaners. I''ve found that liquid Tide works as good as or better than most "hand cleaners". A big jug of that stuff lasts a long time, and if you can get the wife to switch to Tide, you will have a never ending supply. For the really ground in stuff, a small hand brush works great with the Tide.

On occasion I have been known to grab a small bit of dry laundry detergent and a brush to get my hands clean enough to be seen in public.

Sure feels hot when you add a little water.

Anyway, using concentrated laundry detergents to clean your hands works (any brand liquid or powder) but is damaging to your skin.

The tough problem in hand cleaners is how to get off the tough dirty gunky crud we get on our hands without unduly damaging them.

Even if you don't have particularly sensitive skin, laundry detergent is fairly abusive and not something to be recommended as a normal approach.

After scrubbing with laundry detergent you need to be sure to rinse thoroughly and a little hand lotion would be a good idea too to help "seal" the surface a bit so the next dirty thing you pick up doesn't have totally virgin oil free skin to stain.

There is a reason why so many of the mechanic shops had dispensers filled with hand cleaners containing lanolin. Without the lanolin several hand cleanings a day with those cleaners and you would be a prime candidate for a case of dermatitis and painfully cracked skin ust looking for something to cause an infection.

I can attest to that... Working arounf the farm and the shop i find myself having to wash stuff off my hands alot.. this is starting to lead to dry skin... I can't keep the hand cream on fast enough!

This stuff has healed my cracking bleeding splits on my hands. Great stuff!
And no I don't own this company or any of its stock. It just works.

When I get a crack in my hand, I use super glue on it - no joke. The stuff was invented for use in surgery. I found out about this on a potters website. I guess potters have a big problem with cracked skin on their hands from the clay.

Hand washing of dishes is less energy conservative than a good dishwasher and typically takes more hot water.

Making ham salad or cheese mix for sandwiches will do as good, Egon!

Tom, super glue is really good for cracked fingernails too. If you split a fingernail put some super glue in the crack and use some plastic wrap or a wood scrap or something to shove it closed on the glue. Do not use a finger or you will glue your fingers together.

Then after the glue sets up you can trim or file the broken edge down to smooth it so it doesn't catch on anything. This works really well.

Now you've got the picture stuck in my head of a bunch of crusty tractor mechanics with grease stained hands sitting around filing their nails.

My wife's a beautician. I know it works, but it's just funny to hear it in the context of this thread.

Thanks
