OK, I have a question, and a problem.
Question. The fuel filter diagram from tractorbooks.com for my BX24 shows the fuel pump pointing in the wrong direction I think. It is NOT supposed to be pumping into the gas tank, right? That is, it is supposed to be pulling fuel from the tank, correct? Thanks so much.

Problem. Neighbor kid was helping me, and he dropped the bleeding plug bolt into the gas tank. How should I get it out? Does it matter?

If I just leave it in, what size is that bolt?

I am actually pretty mechanical, even though I sound like an idiot.

PS, searched the forums for answers first, but just cant seem to find, probably because both are stupid questions.

I would try to remove it as it could move around a block the fuel outlet and cause a stall or starve the engine for fuel. I would drain the tank and try to fish it out Just what I would do

If its a bolt, just get one of those expanding magnet things from lowes. They look like a pen then expand to about 1 feet or so. Will pick out that bolt no problem.

As for the pump being backwards?? the pump should suck from the tank. iF ITS BEEN WORKING FOR YEARS I CANT SEE HOW ITS ON BACKWARDS. . dang caps button.

I believe he said his manual shows it backwards...not that the pump was pumping backwards. Aftermarket manuals (this one from tractorbooks.com ) frequently aren't worth the paper they're printed on (as you know).
As far as the bolt...if it's ferrous (iron based alloy), a magnet should do the job. If non-ferrous (aluminum, for example), those magnetic fingers should work.

Agree with grsthegreat, if the fuel pump has been working, don't change anything. Did you take it off by mistake since it looks similar to a fuel filter?

I noticed that you only mentioned one fuel filter, if you didn't already know, the BX series has 2 fuel filters. One under the tractor near the fuel pump and one on the left side of the engine.

Yes, I took the fuel pump off. And was pretty sure the manual on the web shows it backwards.

http://kubotabooks.com/AutoIndex/index.php?dir=Tractor Parts Manuals/&file=BX24D.pdf

But I wanted to ask. I just couldn't see why the fuel pump would pump INTO the fuel tank.

Hope I can get the bolt out. Its the bleeder bolt from the engine.

And I did replace both fuel filters. My tractor is definitely having trouble getting fuel. Dirt in the tank is my guess. I have no idea how to get dirt out of tank. Blew the lines with air compressor, and that cleared it up for now, but I believe it will be a recurring problem...

It looks like a **** of job to take the tank off. I dont think I am up for that.

have you figured out how the dirt is getting into the tank ...do you filter the fuel on the way in ...if so, then draining-filtering-draining-filtering... should improve things, no?

My sister had that problem [lots of junk in the tank]we played with it for a while like you said blowing back thru ect. , but ended up removing tank for a good cleaning.Problem was solved for good then.Exit hole on tank was just to small to get leaf debris and other stuff out, even plastic pc's like a drill bit cut twisted pieces, think these came from plastic fuel cans. She now makes sure she screens her fuel when adding.

I don't want to be smart but you don't have a "GAS tank" you have a fuel tank.

Now to the questions why did you take the bleed bolt out?

I clamp off the hose from the tank change the filters just by removing the hose putting a 3/8 bolt in it do the flters and then hook the hose back up.

The system will bleed it self when you start it (at least it dose it for me)

just don't crank it forever a minuet wait 15 and a minuet again but mine usually catches right away and coughs and sputters for about 2 or 3 minuets but it will stay running and get smother.
