Replacing Radio Antenna on JD 6420

I purchased a better grade radio antenna to replace the one that came on my JD 6420 tractor. The antenna is extremely difficult to get to....front right section above the cab liner. The replacement antenna is a metal type with a base that will mount nicely on the rear sidebar support of the cab, but I can't find a way to gain access to the area. Any advice to novice operator would be appreciated!

Hard to know what will be involved for your tractor but I can tell you that sometimes there isn't an easy way to do it. I used to be a Motorola two way technician years ago and can say that clean installations are sometimes very difficult. You may need to remove layers to get where you need to install this. Do you really need this?

Thanks for the reoly....After looking at the tractor further, I agree....it's tough to add an antenna without doing major surgery to the roof of the cab. Thanks again....have a great day!

i have a 7410 jd with cab. on either side of the roof there should be something that looks like a piece of tape that is stuck on the cab. peel this off & that is where the mount for the antenna goes. you will need to remove about 16-18 screws on top of the roof to access the underside to mount the bracket & route the antenna cable. it really isnt that big of a job.get you a cordless drill or power screwdriver & it wont take long at all. just make sure you use a sturdy ladder,so you dont fall & break something.good luck
