Retirement Present L3240

Great tractor I bought one in July mine is the GST and was new with 00.3 hours on it. I did not get a FEL just dont need one right now. I have a 5ft rt cuttery and it handles it fine even in TALL stuff. The dealer told me that it would pull a 6ft but might bog down some in TALL stuff so I got the 5ft and kinda glad I did. I have 150 lbs of weights on the front and thats the ticket for me pulling a 6ft disc thats heavy and it has NO problem or lack of power. Today I actual spread 12 tons of gravel with it and it didn't spin a tire one with the 5ft BB. I was scared that the 32hp was not enough but $$ said no on the 3940 which I really liked. I have AG tires and the 32hp is way way stronger than I thought--so-- so far I love it and keep it in the garage:thumbsup: GREAT machine and I am happy for your brother

Congrats on his retirement and tractor. I think he may think about moving up in HP but other than that he'll not be wanting much else.

I love my 4240hst. The only couple of things I would change would be the location of the 4wd lever, I wish it was higher/ more visible. Also the rear diff lock, I wish it was more of a pedal than just a bent bar. I really like the tilt steering but find I'm getting half way off before realizing that I should tilt it up but I'll learn. I really do like the fact the tilt is foot actuated, not a hand lever.

Got a chance to park my L4400 beside the L3240 today. I was very surprised at how closely matched they are in size. Only significant difference was rear tire size. L4400 is on 17.5x24 and L3240 is on 420/70x24.

Also keep in mind the L3240 rears are set in as far as they'll go. The L4400 rears are almost all the way out.

The L3240 has the 514 Kubota loader. The L4400 has the 1495 Rhino loader. A lot of difference in main beam design. The Rhino loader is quick detach bucket and the Kubota loader isn't. The Rhino loader bucket is also 6" wider. At a glance you would think the L3240 loader bucket is farther forward but when parked side by side they appear to be about equal distance from front tires. Not sure why it appears that way. There's a lot more room between the loader bucket and the grill on the L3240.

I'm still very surprised at the size of both tractors being so equal. When you look at them separately the L4400 appears to be significantly bigger. Must the illusion caused by the bigger rear tires.

My Brother wasn't around so I didn't run his tractor other than to park it for pictures. The auto throttle was on and I'm in love with it already. there's definitely enough foot room to run the brakes with the left foot. The loader lift and tilt is a lot faster than my L4400. Not sure if the L3240 has more hydraulic capacity or if the speed difference is because of my loader being a Rhino.

Anyway, I'm like a Vulture in a tree waiting for him to scratch up his bucket so I can get a turn at it. I'm certainly not going to be the one to pick up the first bucket full of dirt and scratch that new paint!!!:licking:

Yep, I'm with you. I'll talk to him sometime this weekend and see how he got along with the 6' brush cutter. He was cutting waterways around his fields and they are thickly seeded in fescue which cuts pretty tough.

I still think the dilemna with trying to use a 5' cutter would be that the tractor will be wider than the cutter unless you leave the rears all the way in. I don't like my tires set all the way in for loader work and/or steep hillside work.

Yep, me too, I had them put the wheels on my L5030 and M8540 as far out as they would go as I work on slopes.

I use a medium duty Land Pride RCR2672 which is pretty heavy and takes a little HP to turn and often ow stuff 8'-10', so the 3240 would not work for me, but maybe it will for your brother.

Yeah, with that type of mower I prefer it the width of my tires also as it does a better job of cutting and I do a little overlap too. I run a 10'6" pull type on my M8540 and really have to watch it so I don't hang it up on something. On my L5030, if my tractor will fit, so will my bush hog and I don't snag anything which is one of the reasons I didn't go with a 7' on it.

Probably the worst thing you will encounter is in the real rough stuff to do a little overlap; hope it works out and will be looking for updates.
