Right tractor fit?

I guess I'm just like everyone else out there that is looking for the right tractor to fit my needs. One that will do what I need it to do, last a long time, fairly easy to maintain and of course fun to operate. I have 11 acres in North Central Florida, 5 acres of 6 year old planted pines, 5 acres of pasture and 1 acres for my home site.

I will be using it for construction of my log home, finish grading, driveway maintenance (700'), mowing the pasture and under the pines as well as small farm loader work and post hole drilling. I have been looking at two different tractors locally. The JD 790 with 419 loader and the Kubota L3130 GST with LA723 loader. I know these have many different prices and features. I would like to compare like machines in the Jd and Kubota lines. Of these two different machines, what are the apples to apples comparison machines?

Welcome to TBN. You will find no end of good advice here.

I think both machines are reputable and probably the driving factor in your decision should be the dealer. I know when I was looking the deciding factor was the dealer since I am not much of a mechanic.

I dont know much about the Kubota but my guess is, in reading your post, that I would find the John Deere 790 a bit on the light side depending on how you are going to use it for construction and mowing. Maybe thats not fair....it probably is just a trade off for time.

I will let others weigh in on the machine specifics.

Can you describe in more detail what you plan to use the tractor for during home construction?

Will use it for grading the site, spreading fill materials, lifting of some of the lumber materials from the ground to the deck level (forks), piling trash debris, general grading and finally finish grading/prep for grass seeding.

I would get on the respective companies web sites and start reading (printing) the product specs. I would first categorize by PTO HP and transmission types. Decide what size you think will be suitable, drive some machines and get price quotes.

From their you can compare Machine A at X price -vs- Machine B at X+ price, and start weighing if Machine B's features (operator station layout, fancy 3PT arms, remote hydraulics, comfy seat, etc.) justify the difference or are important to you.

Oh, as you will read here many times, how comfortable you are with a dealer and his ability to support you are very important and are the deciding factor for a lot of folks.

North Central Fl.. eh.. sounds like you are a neighbor of mine.. I live in summerfield.

If you are near marion county.. take a look at sun-ray tractor.. a MF and AGCO dealer.. also Ocala Tractor.. they sell NH Mcormick, and mahindra.

I just picke dup my 7610 from the NH dealer.. and 3 years ago had bought a 1920.

I think a more apt comparison is the 4310 from Deere and the L3130. The 790 represents more of a value line from Deere, and is not equipped comparably to the "Grand L" series from Bota. I know that Kubota also has a value (i.e. lower priced) line-up as well.

I actually narrowed my choices down to those 2 models (4310 and L3130), and found both to be extremely good tractors. You certainly wouldn't go wrong with either one.

Hey Dave how are ya? Have you put a lot of hours on the L3130 this year? I was pounding away the hours in the spring and early summer... but I've been "forced" back to school to finish a degree, it's seriously cut into my seat time. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I took a break this past weekend for a little diesel therapy - I'm around 114 hours now.

~90 hours on the Kubota...
...snow removal with rear blade & loader here in CT...
...equipment is in VT during the warm months... so only get to use it weekends and during vacation... split between loader & backhoe work... and some landscape rake stuff...

...get to use it rain or shine sine there's a cab on it...

...no mowing... I bought a 1982 Gravely garden tractor with a 60" deck for that...

Hello.
I also was undecided between a JD 4310 and a Kubota L3130.
I have 7 acres and the L3130 is a good fit for me.

I went with the L3130. I like it a lot. Its got about 107 hrs on it right now.

You wont go wrong with either the JD or the Kubota.
